Looking ahead

USHR tweeted that 13-1-0 Kimball Union will take on the EJHL Jr. Bruins today at 1:45 p.m. at Matthews Arena. The game will match BU two biggest--size-wise--recruits for 2013. 6-5, 223, dman Doyle Somerby (NYI 6th round choice) is a KUA co-captain who helped his team capture the Flood Marr and Nichols tournaments over the holidays. 6-4 218 Kevin Duane recently joined the Bruins after scoring 12 points in 18 games for USHL Waterloo and has a 6-6-12 line (including 5 power play goals) in seven EJHL games.

Somerby’s 2011-12 teammate on small school prep champion KUA, Jonathan MacLeod, a 2014 recruit, brings home a bronze medal from the World U17 Challenge in Quebec where he helped Team USA to a third-place finish. 2014 recruit Jack Eichel scored three goals in four games for Team USA before being sidelined by an injury.

USA coach Danton Cole talked with NHL.com (sidebar) about the qualities that make EIchel a likely top draft choice in 2015.

"He's very talented, he's very powerful, he's a big, strong kid," Cole said of his star center. "But the thing that separates the really good athletes from the good athletes is the guys that are driven. Whether they're quiet or really loud guys, the real good ones are driven. He's fun that way because he wants to get better every day, he wants to learn, he wants to work. He's been a lot of fun to coach."

2013 recruit Jarrid Privitera scored a goal, added an assist and was +3 in Dubuque’s 8-2 thumping of Green Bay. The 5-7 speedster has an 8-5-13 scoring line.

Looking ahead to Wednesday's BU-Harvard game at Agganis Arena, the Boston Herald spoke with former BU captain Tom O'Regan, father of Terrier freshman Danny O'Regan and Crimson sophomore Tom O'Regan, about his sons' first college-level clash
