And then there were none

With the Rangers’ and Flames’ overtime game seven wins—just a day after the Bruins were eliminated, the last Terriers playing in the Stanley Cup playoffs have seen their seasons end. But they went down fighting. Charlie McAvoy assisted on both Boston goals in a 3-2 loss to Carolina.

Dallas goalie Jake Oettinger stopped 64 shots before yielding the game-winner 15 minutes into overtime to Calgary's Johnny Gaudreau—who he had robbed on at least three other times during the game.

Former NHL player and current analyst Paul Bissonnette tweeted: “Greatest playoff goaltending performance I’ve ever seen in my life by Jake Oettinger.”

Only Oettinger’s stellar netminding had enable the heavily outgunned Stars to reach the seventh game. He stopped 272 of 285 shots for a playoff best .954 save percentage, limiting the potent Flames to 1.81 goals per game.

Following the game, Oettinger said: "I’ve never been more motivated than I am right now. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that I get this opportunity again and I’ll make sure I’m on the other side of it the next time."

And in the Penguins’ loss to New York, Evan Rodrigues made a brilliant play to score a second-period short-hander that gave Pittsburgh a 3-2 lead.

A week after Jay Pandolfo took the reins as the Terriers new head coach, the process of finalizing his staff continues. While it's been reported that UConn associate head coach and former Terrier captain Joe Pereira is expected to assume the associate coach spot that Pandolfo had held, there might be another new face coming aboard. College Hockey Insider's Mike McMahon has reported that assistant coach Len Quesnelle won't return next season and that Pandolfo is seeking to add a coach with a "skills background" for that position.

Looking ahead

2023 recruit Jack Musa is the lone future Terrier still competing in the USHL's Clark Cup Playoffs. The Florida native scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in Madison’s 8-4 win over Muskegon to clinch the Eastern Conference championship. Musa, who has seven goals in 10 playoff games, produced 19 goals and 16 assists in the regular season. The Lumberjack’s Quinn Hutson is tied with Musa for the playoff goal-scoring lead with seven and finished the post-season with 16 points in nine games.  Hutson, a right-shot forward, finishes his USHL career as the fourth leading scorer in team history with 115 points over two seasons. His 49 goals are fifth best.

In the Western Conference finals, Sioux City ousted regular-season champion Tri-City, ending the season of 2022 recruit Jeremy Wilmer. He had eight points in five playoff games following his league-best regular season mark of 98 points (23G,73A).
