The
WJC-exhibition game edition of "When Macklin faced off against Lane"
(aka Team Canada vs. Team USA) certainly didn't disappoint. Celebrini scored
goals in the first and third periods and had another tally disallowed for a
high stick. Hutson set up the game's first goal, springing Quinn Finley with a
100-foot headman pass and had a second assist in the middle period. Then,
with the score tied at 5-5, the All-American reminded fans that overtime is his
time. He stripped a defender inside Canada's blueline, headed to the net and
fired a shot under the crossbar, popping the water bottle for good measure.
Following the game, FloHockey.TV's Chris Peters posted:
"Seems weird to say it, but I feel like Celebrini has been *under* hyped going into the tournament. Poised to be Canada’s best forward, based on what we’ve seen so far, Celebrini’s brilliance is about to get its biggest stage yet."
The Athletic's Cory Pronman wrote:
[Hutson] wasn’t that good versus Sweden two days ago but was very good today against Canada. He scored a great overtime goal and made a high-end stretch pass to Quinn Finley that led to USA’s first goal. On top of the points, Hutson showed more of his trademark elusive skating and skill that led to a lot of puck possession and scoring chances.
