BU Picked to Finish 4th in Hockey East Coaches Poll

Today was Hockey East's annual pre-season media day, as the Terriers were picked to finish 4th in the league, behind defending national champion BC, as well as Maine and UNH. Additionally, David Warsofsky was selected as a member of the pre-season team. More details over at the Boston Hockey Blog, which also broke the news that both junior Corey Trivino and sophomore Alex Chiasson will be suspended for this weekend's exhibition match as well as the first two regular season games. Trivino's forthcoming suspension was made public before the summer, however Chiasson's suspension was not public until today. Additionally, head coach Jack Parker will miss Saturday's exhibition game against the University of Toronto after his summer surgery. He hopes to be back for the season opener.

Also, Scott McLaughlin's Hockey East rankings have concluded, with the top 3 mirroring the coaches poll: #1 Boston College, #2 Maine, #3 New Hampshire, #4 Boston University, #5 Merrimack, #6 Vermont, #7 Northeastern, # 8 Providence, #9 Massachusetts-Lowell, #10 Massachusetts.

Hockey East also announced this season's television schedule, which features Boston University in 13 games (8 on NESN, 4 on CBS College Sports, and 1 on Maine's WABI-TV). Of note, all 4 scheduled games against Boston College will be televised on either CBS College Sports or NESN. The composite TV schedule for the league is available here.

Looking Back
The Ottawa Senators had a round of cuts from training camp today, and Eric Gryba was one of several players reassigned to the Binghamton Senators. Also, the Pittsburgh Penguins sent former Terriers John Curry and Brian Strait down to their farm team in Wilkes-Barre.

Out in BU West, former Terrier co-captain Kevin Shattenkirk was assigned to the Lake Erie Monsters. His teammate Colby Cohen remains in the Colorado Avalanche training camp to battle for the seventh defenseman spot, showcasing as a power-play specialist.

Sean Sullivan was waived by the San Jose Sharks, and will continue with the Worcester Sharks if another team does not claim him.
