Looking back

2009-10 Terrier captain Kevin Shattenkirk had one more stop before Colorado Avanlanche rookie camp begins He was one of 23 players named to participate in today's 2010 NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Nick Bonino took part in the annual charity scrimmage involving pros from Connecticut at Pete Asadourian’s Pro Hockey Camp in Cromwell, Conn. Bonino, who will soon head to Anaheim Ducks camp, helped Team Gold to a 7-6 win with a late tying goal. Also playing in the scrimmage--for the fifth time--was former Terrier Gregg Johnson, who recently announced his retirement from pro hockey.Johnson scored 61 points for the South Carolina Stingrays last season.

Former Terrier winger Kenny Roche is off to SG Cortina in Italy after splitting last season between Charlotte (ECHL), Providence (AHL) and Hartford (AHL).

Sad news
We must report two losses to the Terrier hockey family. John Simpson, former BU Hockey manager, BU Football player, BU Athletic Director, and member of the BU Athletic Hall of Fame passed away yesterday. Simpson, who was 85, was a native of Brookline and was a combat Marine in World War II. His son, Steve, skated for the Terriers from 1979 to 1981.

Larry Coughlin, 90, a World War II Navy veteran who was one of the early members of the Friends of BU Hockey, also passed away yesterday in Florida.
