What made this the right time to begin your professional career?
“I think just in talking to coach (Jack) Parker back at school, he said he felt it was time to go. And I knew myself that it was time to go. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity, but you don’t want to rush it. You don’t really know when it is, but I just kind of felt after the season that this was the jump I wanted to make. Hopefully it will turn out for the best.”

►A pair of BU teammates on the 2006 Hockey East champs, John McCarthy and Sean Sullivan, are among the candidates looking for roster spots in San Jose.

►Another pair of ex-Terrier teammates, Brian Strait and John Curry are in Penguins camp, with Strait scheduled to be in the lineup for Pittsburgh’s preseason opener tonight.

►Former Terrier All-American defenseman Tom Poti has signed a two-year extension with the Washington Capitals for a reported $5.75 million. Last season, Poti scored 24 points (4+20) and had a career-high and fifth best in the NHL for blueliners +26. He discussed his new contract and role with the Caps in a podcast.
