Gill, Escobedo lead BU to Ice Breaker title--UPDATED

Sophomore defenseman Sean Escobedo picked the right time to score his first collegiate goal. His wrister from the top of the faceoff circle with just over a minute remaining in the third period broke a 4-4 tied and provided the margin of victory as BU edged Notre Dame to earn its second Ice Breaker title in three years.

Escobedo's game-winner came off a clean faceoff win by freshman center Sahir Gill (photo credit Isabel Slepoy, Daily Free Press), who was a standout all afternoon with a goal and three assists as well as a +3. He scored BU's first goal and set up David Warsofsky and Kevin Gilroy for BU's second and fourth goals.

“Sahir Gill had a coming-out party for himself,” said BU head coach Jack Parker. “He was playing on the fourth line where he didn’t get a lot of ice time and he gets one goal and three assists. It was to the point where we had him playing on the power play a couple of times and he did a good job. We’re real proud of him.”
Senior co-captain Joe Pereira scored his third goal in two games for the Terriers.

Grant Rolleheiser, making his first start of the season, shook off a pair of "greasy" goals in the second period that gave the Irish a 4-3 lead and blanked them thre rest of the way, including some clutch stops in the final period.
