Game Day: BU vs. Lowell at Tsongas




#2/3 BU is in Lowell tonight to complete its regular-season series with the #11/12 River Hawks. Puck drop at Tsongas Arena is at 7:15 p.m.  

In the first meeting on January 18, the Terriers earned a hard-fought 4-3 win on freshman Jack Eichel’s overtime goal.

Eichel and senior assistant captain Evan Rodrigues lead BU in points with 40 and 36 respectively, while their linemate, junior Danny O’Regan, is tops in goals with 18. Rodrigues, who has scored or assisted on the game-winning goal in the past five games, has recorded 23 points in the past 10 games.

Lowell’s standout freshman CJ Smith leads the River Hawks in points (24) and goals (12), while sophomores Joe Gambardella and Evan Campbell each have 19 points.

Episode 17 of Inside BU Hockey features Bernie Corbett’s interviews with Coach David Quinn, Captain Matt Grzelcyk and former Terrier forward Jason Lawrence (photo). Grzelcyk has 11 points (1G, 10A) in the nine games since second semester began and was named a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award. 

Currently the head coach at Everett High School, Lawrence arrived at BU following two strong seasons with the US National Team Development Program. He scored 97 points in four seasons as a Terrier, including 39 points (25G, 14A) while playing on the top line of BU’s 2008-09 national championship team.

Senior assistant captain Evan Rodrigues, who rang up 18 points in January (4G, 14A) and set a conference record with six assists in one game, was named Hockey East’s Warrior Player of the Month. He’s the second Terrier to win the monthly honor this season. Jack Eichel, who was Player of the Month in November, was the runner-up for January’s Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month, an award he claimed in both October and December.

2016 recruit Kieffer Bellows, named USHL co-forward of the week, is featured on the league’s weekly highlight reel for his hat trick plus shootout goal effort for Sioux Falls.
Now fifth in the league in goals scored, the Edina, Minnesota native has tallied 16 goals in his last 18 games.
