Five Terriers are on the Team USA roster for the new World
Junior Summer Showcase, a four-team tournament organized by USA Hockey as a
first step for picking the 2018 Junior National Team that will defend the title
in the World Junior Championships. Sophomores Jake Oettinger and Patrick
Harper (photo), returnees from last year’s Junior National Team, are joined on the
showcase roster by classmate Chad Krys and incoming freshmen Brady Tkachuk and
Logan Cockerill. Former Terrier Kieffer Bellows is also rostered for Team USA.
The tournament in Plymouth, Michigan, set for the first week
of August, will also have teams from Canada, Finland and Sweden. BU sophomore
Dante Fabbro is a returnee for Canada, while freshman Kasper Kotkansalo, who played for the 2017
gold medal Finland squad, is expected to return as well.

Looking ahead
Melrose, Massachusetts native Jake Witkowski, a 5-10, right-shot forward,
has committed to BU for 2017-18. A four-year player at Malden Catholic where he
won three Super 8 titles, he then played a PG season at Avon Old Farms and a
season of junior hockey with BCHL Alberni Valley.
At AOF, he was a teammate of Harper, scoring 40
points (13G, 27A). Last season in the BCHL, Witkowski was the second leading scorer for the
Bulldogs with 23 goals and 17 assists, centering the top line, recording two hat tricks and earning Player of the Week
honors in December.

Looking back
Steve Stirling, captain of the 1971 BU National Championship team,
an All-American center with 70 points as a senior, has been named NCAA
Recruitment coordinator and a professional scout for the Ottawa Senators. For
the past seven years, Stirling has been an assistant coach for the AHL
Binghamton Senators. Earlier, he had been head coach of the New York Islanders
for a season and a half and a head coach in the German Elite League.

The Second Annual BU Hockey Elders & Friends Golf Outing was held
this past Friday with seven foursomes teeing up at the Butter Brook Gold Club
in Westford, Massachusetts. Participants included Terrier captains from 1970 (Larry
Davenport), 1971 (Steve Stirling), 1972 (John Danby), 1973 (Dave Wisener) and
1974 (Eddie Walsh).
Other BU hockey alumni participating were Steve Dolloff, Peter
Yetten, Bob Gryp, Jerry Gryp, Jim Glover, Dan Brady, John Grady, Paul
Giandomenico, Bob Murray, Rick Comfort, Tim Kimball, Billy Whelton, Peter
Marshall, John Melanson, Chris Henes, Joe Robillard and Coach David Quinn. The “Friends”
included UNH’s Dick Umile, Harvard’s David Hynes, Bob McManama and Kevin Hampe
and BC's Jimmy Logue and Charlie Toczylowski.
Low team gross winners were (L-R) Grady, Walsh, Quinn, Murray.
Walsh had the top gross score, 75, followed by Quinn at 77.
Event co-organizer Dolloff added that “After golf, we all headed
to Peter Yetten's home, where he hosted a cookout and the old hockey tales were
never ending.”
