'70-'71 flashback Jan. 16, 1971 BU 6 Bowling Green 1
Top-ranked Terriers won their eighth consecutive game defeating Bowling Green, 6-1. BU improved its record to 12-0-1 and has yielded fewer than two goals in 10 of the 13 games. The Falcons, who were then a CCHA team and now play in the WCHA, brought a crew of skating cheerleaders to Boston Arena for the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Sophomore defenseman Bob Brown led the offense with power plays goals in the first and third periods and assisted on two others. His blueline partner and classmate Ric Jordan dished out three helpers. Also finding the net for BU were Toot Cahoon, Guy Burrowes, Steve Stirling and John Danby. With a tidy 16-save effort, Tim Regan recorded his 10th win.
Brown, who would go on to set a single-season scoring record for BU defensemen with 60, accumulated 110 points in his two seasons as a Terrier. Despite playing only 62 games, he is the fifth leading all-time scorer among BU defensemen, trailing only Vic Stanfield (160), Peter Brown (144), Brian Gilmour (123) and Jack O’Callahan (120). All five earned All-American honors.
