BU’s leadership group for the 2023-24 was announced at the team's annual banquet. Next season's Terriers
will be headed by fifth-year defenseman and new captain Case McCarthy. Four
assistant captains were named: fifth-year Sam Stevens, seniors Luke Tuch and Cade
Webber and sophomore Lane Hutson.
@BUHockeyStats points out:
-Case McCarthy is the 9th Terrier defenseman to be named Captain since 2013-14 (compared to 4 F).
-Lane Hutson is the first sophomore to be named an Assistant Captain since Charlie McAvoy in 2016-17.

►Hockey East has posted "Championship Weekend: The Movie” featuring highlights from the
conference tournament semifinals and championship game at TD Garden. Terriers defeated Merrimack, 3-2 in overtime, to claim their 10th title.
IIHF Men’s World Championship
Prior to Tuesday’s USA-Germany exhibition
game, Nick Bonino was named captain of
the U.S. squad that also includes, Tuch, Hutson and Drew Commesso. Head
Coach David Quinn made the announcement.

After the U.S. won the game 6-3, a
practice 3-on-3 overtime was played with Hutson setting up Harvard’s Sean
Farrell for the winning goal. That was followed by a shootout exhibition.

The U.S. begins preliminary round action
Friday against host Finland. All Team USA games will air on NHL Network (schedule and times).
Looking ahead
In the USHL playoffs, the season continues
for two BU recruits, but has ended for four others.
Lincoln was eliminated in the Western
Conference final by Fargo, despite a pair of goals by 2023 recruit Doug Grimes
in the Stars’ 6-4 loss. He finished the post-season with a 3-6-9 line after
putting up 24-25-49 in 49 regular-season games.
In the Eastern Conference final,
Youngstown eliminated Chicago in four games, defeating the Steel last night,
2-1 in overtime. 2023 recruit Jack Harvey had given Chicago a 1-0 lead but the
Phantoms tied the score late in the third period and won in overtime. 2023
recruit Shane Lachance’s bullet pass to the crease set up the game-winner.

Lachance has four points (2G,2A) in six games,
while 2024 recruit Brandon Svoboda has one goal for Youngstown.
For Chicago, Harvey had a 2-2-4 line six
playoff games. His regular-season total of 74 points (40G,34A) was fourth best
in the USHL. 2023 recruit Macklin Celebrini played in only two playoff games
after returning from the World 18U Championships and had no points. He was the
league’s regular-season scoring champion with 86 points (46G,40A) and claimed
the USHL’s Rookie of the Year, Forward of the Year and Player of the Year awards.
Looking back
Jack Eichel scored his fifth playoff goal
and added two assists to lead the Golden Knights past the Oilers, 5-1 in game three. Following last night's Edmonton win, the series is tied at 2-2.s a 2-1 series lead.
Jake Oettinger stopped 16 of 19 shots as
Dallas doubled up Seattle, 6-3,
to even their playoff series at two games apiece.
Three Terriers have been named finalists for NHL post-season awards. Clayton Keller, who tied the Coyotes' record for points in a season, is a candidate for the Bill Masterton Memorial Award. Kevin Shattenkirk and Brady Tkachuk are finalists for the King Clancy Memorial Award.
Women's Team
New head coach Tara Watchorn has named two assistants: Courtney Kessel and Megan Myers.
Myers was an assistant under Watchorn at Stonehill while Kessel has spent the past four years as an assistant at Princeton.
