Lane Hutson, the youngest player on Team
USA at the IIHF World Championships, continued his highlight-reel season with a jaw-dropping
individual effort against Austria that had the hockey community buzzing.
He danced around one skater at center
ice, then skated through a trio of Austrians in the offensive zone, putting the
puck through one’s legs before chipping it through the goalie’s five hole.

It was the Hobey Baker Award finalist's first goal of the tournament and second point of the 4-1 US win. Earlier he
set up Carter Mazur’s tally. Hutson leads U.S. defensemen with four points and a +5.
U.S.Head Coach David Quinn remarked, "You can see his
confidence is growing with the puck. He and I have talked about that he may
have to create offense a little bit different differently at this level, a bit
more puck movement. But good things usually happen when the puck's on his
stick."
Teammate Alex Tuch (Luke Tuch’s older
brother) added, "That was pretty special, honestly, and it looked pretty easy! When
he takes his helmet off and he's barely sweating, you can see how in condition
these kids are nowadays and how ready they are to play pro-style hockey. He
dominates college. He's going dominate college again next year, and it's gonna
be really exciting to see what he does in the NHL."
Journalist Chris Peters of Flo Hockey
discussed Hutson during his “Talking Hockey Sense” video podcast, calling him a
“unicorn” (in a positive way) among defensemen.

Nick Bonino, the oldest player on the
U.S. roster, scored twice in the win against Hungary and Luke Tuch potted one
in the same game.

The NHL Conference finals begin tonight.
No Terriers in the Eastern Conference final between Florida and Carolina, but
each of the Western finalists feature a Terrier in a key position. Dallas’s
Jake Oettinger, who leads all playoff goalies with eight wins, has a 2.75 GAA
and a .903 save percentage. Jack Eichel
leads Vegas in playoff scoring with a 6-8-14 line. The Stars and Golden Knights
face off Friday night.
