Four future Terriers rostered on US Hlinka-Gretzky tourney squad

All four BU recruits at the tryout camp for the USA’s U-18 Men’s Select Team have earned spots on the 23-man squad that will compete for the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in Czechia and Slovakia beginning Aug. 1. Forwards Callum Hughes, John McNelis and Will Zellers join defenseman Owen Keefe on the roster. NHL Network will air each of Team USA's games live.

During Saturday’s blue vs. white scrimmage, Keefe (photo above) had a hat trick, while Hughes scored twice in a 24-second span and Zellers also found the net. TheRinkLive called out five standouts in the game, including those three BU recuits.

The World Junior Summer Showcase begins Thursday in Plymouth, Michigan. Lane Hutson and Devin Kaplan are among the 45 under-20 players  seeking to make the U.S. Junior National Team that will compete in next year’s World Junior Championships in Czechia. The US players are split into White and Blue squads that will face off against Finland and Sweden. Both Hutson, who is one of seven returnees from last year’s Jr. National Team, and Kaplan are on USA White.

Congratulations to AJ Greer and his bride. The right wing from Joliette, Quebec, who played for BU’s 2015 Hockey East championship national finalist team, is one of five Terriers currently on the Bruins’ roster, along with Charlie Coyle, Matt Grzelcyk, Charlie McAvoy and Kevin Shattenkirk.
