Fourteen skaters on the 2023-24 Terrier roster have attended NHL Development Camps this month. In addition to those 14, five others from the 2022-23 squad attended NHL camps: Matt Brown (PHL), Dom Fensore (CAR), Jay O'Brien (PIT), Drew Commesso (CHI), and Wilmer Skoog (FLA).

2024 recruit Brandon Svoboda is at San Jose’s camp, while former Terrier Jake Wise also is at Florida’s camp. Noteworthy, too, is the inclusion on the chart of junior center Jack Hughes, the first official recognition that the former Northeastern Husky has transferred to BU.

Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson addressed the beginning of Commesso’ pro career, following three strong seasons at BU. Commesso, who signed a three-year entry-level contract with Chicago following last Spring’s Frozen Four, is expected to start the season with AHL Rockford. Davidson points out:

“It’s a big year for him coming out of college and jumping into the pro ranks. It’s a tough transition, but you know Drew’s got a great attitude, great work ethic and he’s going to put in every bit of work that he needs to to make that transition as seamless as possible.”

Staying with the Blackhawks, Ryan Greene, who earned Hockey East All-Rookie honors, skated at his second development camp. The Paradise, Newfoundland native, ranked Chicago’s #7 prospect, spoke with the media (video).

Looking ahead

2025 recruit Aidan Souligny has joined BCHL Salmon Arm. The 6’3” left-shot defenseman with a heavy shot began last season with his hometown Navan Grads before heading South of the border to join the New Jersey Rockets 16U where he had 15 points in 27 games and added two assists as the Rockets reached the USA Hockey Nationals 16U semifinal.

Silverbacks GM Brooks Christensen said, “We believe with Aidan’s size and speed he will bring another element to our backend to help form the defensive core we envision.”

BU will have four other committed recruits playing in the BCHL next season: 2024 recruit Jack Pridham and 2024 or 2025 recruit Callum Hughes, both forwards, will play for West Kelowna. 2024 defenseman Tim Busconi will spend a second season with Victoria, while forward Michael LaStarza, traded to Chilliwack last season, will be back with the Chiefs next season.

Looking back

During that 10-year span, BU enjoyed a 19-8 edge over the Eagles, including a 10-game winning streak between 1964-65 and 1968-69. Over the final seven seasons, Jack Kelley's squads won 16 of 18 meetings.

Former BU forward Matt Quercia has signed on with the ECHL Wheeling Nailers again. He missed most of last season with an injury.

Women’s Team

The 2023-24 schedule has been announced. Along with 27 Hockey East contests, BU will play seven out-of-conference games, including the Women’s Beanpot (opening round vs. Harvard), a pair with Syracuse and tournament games against Robert Morris and Minnesota State in the Smashville Showcase in Nashville.
