Freshman standout Macklin Celebrini has been named a Hobey Hat Trick finalist by the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Committee, along with BC’s Cutter Gauthier and North Dakota’s Jackson Blake.
It’s the latest honor for the high-scoring North Vancouver native. Earlier this week he was recognized as College Hockey News’ Rookie of the Year, Hockey East’s Rookie of the Month for March and the conference’s Rookie of the Week—for the seventh time this season--following the NCAA Regionals where he scored a goal and assisted on four other BU strikes.
Celebrini told BU Today’s Charles Moore:
“It means a lot. It’s a special honor to be named a finalist for the award. But then again, right now we’re focused on preparing for next week and hopefully winning a championship. So it’s a cool accomplishment, but not what we’re focused on.”
Hockey journalist Chris Peters has analyzed all three finalists, concluding:
Based on merit, there are as many worthy candidates this season as I can remember. However, if I were handicapping this race, I think it goes to Celebrini.

Celebrini will look to join previous Terrier winners of college hockey’s top award for men: Chris Drury (1998), Matt Gilroy (1995) and Jack Eichel (1971). Colin Wilson was a Hobey Hattrick finalist in 1995. Before the Hat Trick was introduced, Drury was runner-up in 1997, as was Jay Pandolfo in 1996 and Cleon Daskalakis in 1984.
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award presentation is set for Friday, April 12, at 6 p.m. ET and will air live on NHL Network
Also Thursday, Celebrini was named the Hockey Commissioners Association Rookie of the Month for March.

Frozen Four
On Wednesday, the coaches of the Frozen Four teams spoke with the media. The Boston Hockey summarizes the comments from BU’s Jay Pandolfo and David Carle of Denver who the Terriers will meet next Thursday in the semifinals.
Pandolfo expressed confidence that his team is ready to perform on the big national stage in St. Paul, given their experience at last season’s Frozen Four and having played before big crowds at Madison Square Garden and TD Garden.
The BHB crew reviews BU’s wins at the Sioux Falls Regional and looks ahead to St. Paul in a new Terrier Hockey Talk podcast.
►With the circus having taken over Agganis Arena, BU is practicing at Walter Brown Arena, which has the same 200 x 85 dimension at the Xcel Center in St. Paul.
