Captain's Q&A; North to Alaska; Milestones for Sullivan and Eichel

Jack Harvey - Men's Ice Hockey - Boston University Athletics

Senior captain Jack Harvey is coming off his best goal-scoring season with 13 and is the Terriers' top returning goal-scorer. Throughout his BU career, he's been a factor on special teams--power play, penalty kill and shootouts. He shared his thoughts about the upcoming season.

Q. As senior captain, what will you take from previous captains to help you lead the team in meeting its goals?
A. Throughout my years at BU, I've seen a lot of great captains, people who did things different ways. I'll take things from each of them while being myself.

Q. Coming off a year where the team failed to live up to expectations, what are you communicating to your teammates to ensure a bounce-back season?
A. The big thing is never taking a day for granted, always coming to the rink with the right mentality.
Q. Compared with a year ago, there are far fewer newcomers, and that group includes a pair of transfers with two years of D1 experience. Has that made their assimilation into the team less complicated?
A. Having fewer (newcomers) has been good for getting everyone one the same page, which we've done.  Both of the portal transfers have been really great additions to our older group and they've also taken on the role of helping the younger guys.

►College Hockey News' Top 10 NCAA Recruit Classes slots the Terriers at #6, between #5 UMass and #7 BC. Michigan State, whom BU will visit November 6 & &, sits atop the list.

Looking ahead

TSN Craig Button's September draft list slots Carter Meyer at #4 and Jamie Glance at #19. He commented:

Carter is highly skilled, he’s edgy. He’s a player that grabs the game by the scruff of its neck. You need a physical play? He’ll be physical. You need a skill play? He’ll be skilled. You need an edgy play? He’ll do it.

Looking back

Mike Sullivan, who captained the Terriers to the 1990 Frozen Four, returned to Boston to coach his 1,000th NHL game. The Bruins made the evening bittersweet, defeating his Rangers, 4-0, in a game much closer than the score indicates. The Marshfield, Mass., native, who is the only American to coach two Stanley Cup winners (Pittsburgh 2016 & 2017), began his NHL coaching career with Boston in 2003-04.

Last winter, Sullivan led Team USA to Olympic Gold in Cortina d'Empezzo, Italy.

Jack Eichel's milestone tally—scored against BC's Spencer night —was also the game winner in the Golden Knights' 5-2 opening-night win over Chicago. The 2015 Hobey Baker Award winner also assisted on two Vegas goals.

BU Hockey Stats points out:  Eichel is just the 4th Terrier to reach 700 career points in the NHL, behind Hockey Hall of Famer Keith Tkachuk (1065), Tony Amonte (900), and Scott Young (757).

It's a Green Line goal! 🚨 Jordan Greenway, acquired over the summer from Buffalo, takes a drop pass from Ryan Greene and rifles home the Blackhawks' first goal of the season.

The Terriers, who open their season in Madison with a two-game series against #1-ranked, defending champion Wisconsin, will be led by senior captain Neely Nicholson and classmates Greta Henderson and Mari Pietersen, who are assistants.
