Gone camping; another forward for 2020; Chiasson re-signs; O'Regan joins Quinn in New York

Twenty-four current, future and former Terriers are headed to NHL Development camps. Twelve—and possibly a 13th—are expected to be on the 2019-20 roster.

Ty Amonte (NYR); Logan Cockerill (NYI); Cam Crotty (ARZ); Patrick Curry (STL); David Farrance (NSH); Patrick Harper (NSH); Domenick Fensore (CAR); Kasper Kotkansalo (DET); Robert Mastrosimone (DET); Case McCarthy (NJ); Ethan Phillips (DET); Vinnie Purpura (MTL); Alex Vlasic (CHI); and Trevor Zegras(ANA).

► 2020 recruits Braden Doyle (LA); Jay O’Brien (PHI); and Cade Webber (CAR)

Kieffer Bellows (NYI); Shane Bowers (COL); Bobo Carpenter (NYI); Dante Fabbro (NSH); Joel Farabee (PHI); Brandon Hickey (BUF); and Jake Oettinger (DAL).

McCarthy and Vlasic may not be able to attend their respective camps, which conflict with their summer class schedule.

Mastrosimone’s time in the Red Wing’s camp was cut short when he fractured an ankle blocking a shot. Anticipated to be out from four to six weeks, the left-shot wing will miss the early August U.S. Junior National Evaluation Camp.

The potential 13th for the upcoming season is the former Providence Friar, O’Brien, who was set to play for BCHL Penticton this season before transferring to BU. However, reports indicate he has petitioned the NCAA to allow him to join the Terriers for the upcoming season.

Zegras, selected at #9, by Anaheim in last week’s NHL Entry Draft, has set an ambitious goal of earning an NHL roster spot after one year in the NCAA—hoping to follow the path taken by Jack Eichel, Clayton Keller, Brady Tkachuk and Farabee

Looking ahead

BU has added another forward to the 2019 recruit class: Tyreso, Sweden, center Wilmer Skoog, who played for NAHL Minot last season. The 6’1”, 190 pound forward had 18 goals and 29 assists in 57 games, third most points for the Minotauros. A physical center, he had 65 PIMs.

Skoog spent the previous three seasons with VIK Västerås HK, scoring 26 points in 31 games for the U20 team in 2017-18.

At USA Hockey’s Select 17 Development Camp, 2021 recruit Artem Shlaine scored three goals and added an assist in five games to lead Team Navy in scoring. The 6’1”, 170 pound left-shot center was named to the tournament all-star game, recording an assist. Last season, Shlaine scored 90 points for Shattuck St. Mary’s Midget Prep team and played in a pair of USHL playoff games for Sioux Falls, which later selected him in the 2019 draft.

2020 recruit Brian Carrabes attended Sioux Falls tryout camp. Carrabes, a right-shot forward, scored 32 points in 37 games for Kimball Union Academy.

Looking back

Unrestricted free agent Alex Chiasson has re-signed with Edmonton after a breakout season (22G,16A) with the Oilers.  The big right wing earned a two-year deal at $2.15 million per year after joining Edmonton last fall on a PTO and later signing a $650,000 contract

O’Regan, who had 154 points in four seasons at BU, reunites in New York with Coach David Quinn. He’s dressed for 25 games with the Sharks and the Sabres, briefly joining Terrier linemates Jack Eichel and Evan Rodrigues in Buffalo.

Colin Wilson, who scored 27 points for Colorado in his 10th NHL season, has been re-signed by the Avalanche to a one-year contract.

Doyle Somerby has been re-signed to a one year NHL/AHL contract by Columbus.
