Shattenkirk's OT goal wins game 4 for the Bolts; BCHL action begins

Former Terrier captain and All-American Kevin Shattenkirk fired home the overtime game-winner in Tampa Bay’s 5-4 win against Dallas in game four of the Stanley Cup finals. The victory gave the Lightning a 3-1 lead in games. The tally, a hard shot from the right face off circle at 6:34 of the extra session, was the blueliner’s second game-winner of the finals. His first-period goal in game two proved the margin of victory.

Shattenkirk, now in his 10th NHL season, has 13 points in 23 playoff contests; during the regular season he produced eight goals and 26 assists with a plus-22 rating in 70 games for Tampa Bay. He'd previously scored a playoff overtime game-winner in 2017 while with Washington.

2021 recruits Tristan Amonte (photo) and Quinn Hutson each scored a pair of goals in Penticton’s 7-0 blanking of Salmon Arm in the opening game of the Okanagan Cup tournament. The four BCHL teams in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley—Vernon and West Kelowna complete the field—are competing in the two-month pre-season event with each team playing 12 games.

Amonte, younger brother of BU red-shirt junior Ty Amonte, is in his second season with the Vees after producing 34 points (15G, 19A) in 56 games. Hutson, a BCHL rookie, played for the North Jersey Avalanche 18Us last season, tallying 51 goals and 44 assists in 59 games.

2021 recruit Charles-Alexis Legault set up the game-winner for West Kelowna in its 4-1 win against Vernon in the Warriors' first Okanagan Cup game. Legault, a 6’3”, 190 lb., defenseman, starred with the Lac St. Louis Lions last season, scoring 11 goals and adding 22 assists in 35 games. He also played for Canada in the World U17 Challenge and suited up twice for the Muskegon Lumberjacks, his USHL draft team.

Legault had been expected to play for Muskegon this season, but earlier this month signed with West Kelowna, whose head coach Simon Ferguson said:

“We are very excited for Charles-Alexis to join the Warriors family. Charles bring a speed, a big shot and a lot of physicality to our lineup. We are thrilled to add a player of his caliber.”

Legault is the son of former BU defenseman Alex Legault, who played for BU’s 1989-90 Frozen Four team and skated for the 1990-91 national finalist squad.
