Game Day: Terriers at UConn in Hockey East Quarterfinal--UPDATED


#16 BU is in Hartford to face Connecticut in a one-game conference quarterfinal at the XL Center. Puck drop is set for 4:30 p.m. for the contest that will live stream on College Sports Live.

The teams are meeting for the fourth time this season. BU faced UConn is the first regular season week in October, winning on the road, 2-1, and losing at home, 5-1. On January 14, BU eked out a 2-1 overtime win in Hartford on Jay O’Brien’s goal just eight seconds into overtime.

UConn (18-15-0 overall) has lost four of its last six games, but shut out Vermont, 4-0, last Saturday to tie BU in points and earn the tie-breaker and home ice. Goalie Darion Hanson was an honorable mention in the league’s all-star voting. Forward Ryan Tverberg ( 31 points) was a first-team all-star while Jachym Kodelik (32) was named to the second team. Juniors Wilmer Skoog and Domenick Fensore have been named second team Hockey East All-Stars. The pair are BU’s top two scorers with 30 points apiece. Classmate Alex Vlasic received honorable mention. Earlier in the week, freshman Ty Gallagher was named to the all-rookie team

Looking ahead

2022 recruit Jeremy Wilmer recorded his second consecutive four-point game (1G,3A) in Tri-City’s 8-2 rout of Fargo.  His 49 assists and 1.51 points-per-game are tops on the USHL leader board.

2022 recruit Lane Hutson assisted on a pair of goals in the NTDP U18’s 8-4 win against Muskegon. His brother, Quinn Hutson, also a 2022 recruit, had a helper for the Lumberjacks.

2022 recruit Jack Gorton scored his eighth goal in BCHL Victoria’s 6-2 win against Powell River. The right-shot forward has13 points in his last 11 games.

Looking back

Evan Rodrigues scored his 17th goal in the Penguins 5-2 win against Vegas. He has a career-best 36 points thus far. His Terrier linemate Jack Eichel notched his fourth goal for the Golden Knights.
