Game Day: Terriers visit Maine; Parker's Pals UPDATED

#14 Terriers are in Maine for the final weekend of the regular season and will play a pair of games against the Black Bears. Tonight’s contest is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be live-streamed on College Sports Live.

Currently BU is tied for fifth place in Hockey East with UConn and with Providence, whose regular season has concluded. BU is two points behind Lowell and three points behind Northeastern and Merrimack. According to PlayoffStatus.com, BU has a 30% chance of finishing third, 33% chance for fourth and 18% chance for fifth. Winning both games in regulation would guarantee the Terriers a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The Black Bears (6-20-4, 4-16-2) lost six of eight games in February, but managed to knock off UMass in Amherst. While they have had a very challenging season and sit in last place, five of the six wins have come at home. Sophomore Lynden Breen leads the way with 20 points, while classmate Donavan Villeneuve-Houle has 10 goals and 16 points and senior Grant Herbert and senior Jakub Sirota each have 14. Victor Ostman (3.13 GAA) has handled the bulk of the goaltending although Matthew Thiessen played both games last weekend.

Despite BU’s 4-0 win against Maine four weeks ago, Coach Albie O’Connell said that Maine, which has not been swept in regulation at home, “poses a lot of problems, especially in their building. The game last time won’t be any indication of what it’s going to be like to play at Maine.”

He added that “they’ve got talent within that room and enough experience to beat anyone –– we’re not taking anyone lightly.”

Four juniors lead the BU offense. Dom Fensore has 29 points, including 25 assists--best among all D1 defensemen. Top goal scorer (12) Wilmer Skoog has 26 points, while Robert Mastrosimone has 23 followed by Jay O'Brien with 20. Sophomore Drew Commesso (2.46 GAA) and Vinny Duplessis (1.78 GAA) each started a game against BC last weekend.

Two Terriers who missed Saturday's loss to BC with injuries, Case McCarthy and Ethan Phillips, skated in Thursday's practice (see video below) and could return to the lineup.
