Following their 5-1 victory against Air Force Friday night, #6 Terriers will be back on the Mullet Arena ice to face #15/16 Michigan Tech in the championship game of the Desert Hockey Classic. Because host Arizona State, who lost, 4-2, to the Huskies, elected to play the second game tonight regardless of who is in the title game, BU-MTU will begin a 5:30 ET with a live stream on the ASU-2 stream. Tech will be the home team, so BU will be back in the red uniforms.
BU will be facing the Huskies (13-6-3, tied for 3rd in the CCHA) for the first time since November 1988, when the Terriers took a 6-4 win at Walter Brown Arena. Michigan Tech is one of the few schools with an all-time series winning record against BU, 9-5-0. The Huskies are also 6-0 against BU at neutral sites, including several Great Lakes tournaments and the 1975 NCAA semifinal.
One of the BU wins was a 1-0 forfeit in 1985 when the MTU coach, unhappy with the officiating, pulled his team off the ice with the Terriers leading, 5-1.
The current Huskies, coming off a third-place finish in the Great Lakes Invitational, are 4-3-0 in their last seven games. Junior Ryland Mosley is the team leader in goals and points with a 10-13-23 line, including four game-winners and three short-handed goals. He's followed by freshman Kyle Kukkonen (14), senior Parker Saretsky (13) and senior Jack Works (12).
Senior goalie Blake Pietila has a 2.18 GAA and a .922 save percentage in 20 games. His twin brother, Logan Pietela, is a forward with 11 points and a cousin, Jed Pietela, is a junior defenseman with four points.
The Huskies' power play is at 16.3% and the penalty kill is at 85.5%.
