Detroit Red Wings sign Alex Chiasson from AHL affiliate

The Red Wings have signed Alex Chiasson to a contract for the remainder of the season. The power forward had been playing with Detroit’s AHL affiliate, Grand Rapids, after signing as a free agent in December. The right-shot power forward had nine goals and 20 points in 29 games with the Griffins.

Chiasson, who played for Vancouver last year after four seasons in Edmonton, fills a depth forward spot for the Wings following their trade of Tyler Bertuzzi to the Bruins. This will be the 11th NHL season for the Montreal native who was a 2009 second-round draft pick of Dallas. He had 99 points in three seasons as a Terrier.
