UPDATED: NEHW awards, Webber on podcast; Flashback to 1995


As the Terriers prepare for the Frozen Four in Tampa, more individual honors have been realized. The New England Hockey Writer announced awards and all-star teams. Freshman Lane Hutson claimed three of those awards: Most Valuable Player, the George Carens Award for top rookie and the Bob Monahan Award for top defenseman.

Jay Pandolfo was named Coach of the Year. Hutson was joined as a New England First-Team All-Star by seniors Dom Fensore and Matt Brown.

Junior defensemen Cade Webber sat down with the Boston Hockey Blog crew for an episode of Terrier Hockey Talk. The Carolina draft pick leads BU with 92 blocks, 21 more than any other Terrier.

Looking ahead

2023 recruit Gavin McCarthy scored his 6th goal in Muskegon’s 3-2 win against Youngstown on Friday. Shane Lachance scored his 31st goal for the Phantoms. On Saturday, Youngstown turned the tables with a 7-3 win over the Lumberjacks. Lachance scored his 32nd goal--tied for 3rd in the USHL--and added an assist, while McCarthy found the net for his 7th. 

2023 recruit Doug Grimes scored his 19th goal in Lincoln’s 4-3 win against Waterloo. 

 2023 recruit Jack Gorton scored his first playoff goal in Victoria’s 7-5 loss to Alberni Valley. The 6’3” right wing had a 17-28-45 scoring line in 54 regular season games.

2024 recruit Will Zellers scored a pair of goals in Shattuck St. Mary’s 8-3 win against Little Caesar’s in the 18U division of the USA Hockey Nationals.

2023 recruit Jack Harvey scored his 35th goal and added an assist in Chicago's 6-5 OT win over the NTDP U18s. Fellow recruit Macklin Celebrini assisted on two Steel goals. Both had helpers on the game winner. Celebrini remains the league's top scorer with 79 points; Harvey is third with 68 points.

Looking back

Jake Oettinger stopped 16 shots in the Stars’ 5-2 win against the Coyotes. Oettinger earned his 33rd win in 56 starts with only 10 regulation losses. For Arizona, Clayton Keller notched hs 46th assisted and extended his points streak to 14 games (11G,12A).

 

Charlie McAvoy scored his seventh goal in the Bruins' 4-3 win against Mike Sullivan's Penguins. Matt Grzelcyk recorded his 22nd assist.

Charlie Coyle has been named this year’s recipient of the π™€π™™π™™π™žπ™š π™Žπ™π™€π™§π™š π˜Όπ™¬π™–π™§π™™ – presented by the Gallery Gods to the Bruin who demonstrated exceptional hustle and determination throughout the season. 


Women's Team

Recently retired Women's Head Coach Brian Durocher has been named co-recipient of the Parker-York Award, which recognizes unique contributions to New England amateur hockey. Durocher, who co-captained BU's 1978 national champions, stepped down last month after 18 years leading BU's women's program and 45 years overall in coaching, including three stints as a Terrier assist. 

The New England Hockey Writers Association also honored senior forward Julia Nearis as the Joe Tomasello Unsung Hero Award honoree. She led the Terriers in scoring this season with 12 goals and 24 points.
