2025 recruit class adds big forward; Terrier trio to play for IIHF World Championship

Terriers have received a commitment for next season from 6'4", 194 lb., center/right wing Ben Merrill, who formerly was a Harvard commit. The Hingham, Mass., native spent last season with the BCHL Penticton Vees following three seasons at St. Sebastian's. He was a sixth-round pick by Montreal in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

The Elite Prospects Draft Guide called Merrill "a 6-foot-4 centre/wing who can absolutely rip a wrist shot with incredible precision. An avid user of shoulder shimmies, look-offs, dexterous large-ice handles and route-changing attacking."

NHL Central Scouting ranked Merrill #127 among North American skaters.
He had committed to Harvard last August.

Merrill got off to a slow start at Penticton with a 10-1-11 line in his first 36 games, but heated up in his final 22 games with 7 goals and 12 assists.

In 2022-23, Merrill had 24 points in 27 games for St. Sebs and another 26 in 23 games with the South Shore Kings 18U AAA. Then, in his junior year, he put up 18-19-37 as one of the Arrows' top scorers.

St. Seb's Coach Sean McCann:
"He was on the third line at the start of the year, but he quickly moved himself up to the second line and had opportunities on the first line. He just kind of grew his repertoire and his opportunities to kind of play in different situations. His hockey IQ was continuing to develop and getting better there. Just the understanding of spacing and timing, being able to make players around you better.”
During his last two prep seasons, Merrill was a teammate of 2026 recruit Rian Chudzinski

Before entering prep school, he played for Boston Advantage under Coaches Tim Lovell and Eric Healey.
