Snowed-out!

BU’s scheduled game tonight against Merrimack in North Andover has been postponed during the Noreaster that blanketed New England. The game will be played Jan. 18. The Terriers next take the ice at home on Saturday against Harvard. They’ll be with sophomore blueliner Max Nicastro who will serve a one-game suspension, imposed by Coach Jack Parker, for shoving the goal off its moorings in anger, following Vermont’s second goal in Sunday’s 4-2 win. His action earned him a 10-minute misconduct.

With no game scheduled, The Boston Hockey Blog’s Scott McLaughlin sat down with Parker to discuss a number of topics including the team’s recent inconsistent play, the Andrew Glass dismissal and Nicastro’s suspension.

Three BU freshman were included in the recently released NHL Central Scouting rankings: left winger Matt Nieto (No. 55), defenseman Adam Clendening (61) and center Sahir Gill (139) (photo). Three BU recruits also were ranked: center Cason Hohmann (172), defenseman Alexx Privitera (193) and Matt O’Connor No. 24 among goalies. All rankings.

Looking back
Former BU forward Luke Popko scored his first pro goal last week for the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). But it wasn’t the first time he put the puck in the net for the Stingrays. In December, he scored the shootout winner (video below) for South Carolina in a 4-3 victory over the Trenton Devils.

Avs blueliner Kevin Shattenkirk was one of 12 NHL rookies invited to participate in the skills competition at the league’s All-Star game in Raleigh, N.C., on January 30.

Former Terrier Chris Higgins joined the ECHL Las Vegas Wranglers on Tuesday after spending the first part of the season in Italy with Ritten Renon, where he scored 20 points in 21 games.
Higgins joins former BU defenseman Kevin Schaeffer on the Wranglers' roster.

Former BU captain Matt Gilroy picked up his fifth assist of the season on a nifty indirect headman pass (video) to Brandon Dubinsky, but it was the Rangers’ only goal in a 2-1 loss to Montreal.

Looking ahead
Two Terrier recruiting targets, defenseman Mike Matheson and forward Anthony Duclair, both of the Lac St. Louis Lions, represented Quebec in the recent World U17 Challenge. The Scouting Report included both in its evaluation of the tournament’s top players.

One of our sharp-eyed readers reports that Coach Parker, among other local coaches, attended the Lawrence Academy Tournament to observe standout forward Devin Tringale. The left wing, who had a 19-18-37 line for the Spartans in 2009-10, has already visited BU as well as BC and Harvard.

Women's program

Senior captain Holly Lorms' two-goal effort in Sunday win against Providence earned her Hockey East Player of the Week honors. The Terriers next take on Boston College at Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon, trailing the Eagle by one point in the conference standings.
