MacLeod, Pereira on IBUH #5; Battle of Comm Ave approaches

Episode 5 of Inside BU Hockey features Bernie Corbett’s interviews with Coach David Quinn, freshman defenseman John MacLeod and former captain and current UConn assistant Joe Pereira (photo). A member of the Terriers’ 2009 national championship team and captain of the 2010-11 squad, Pereira scored 61 points at BU and spent a season in the ECHL before joining the Huskies staff in 2013.

As if Friday’s BU-BC clash didn’t have enough hype with both teams in the top five of the national polls, the contest will feature two prospects projected to be top five picks in the next NHL Entry Draft: the Terriers’ Jack Eichel and the Eagles Noah Hanifan.

Eichel talked about his first month playing for BU and the upcoming match-up with BC on NHL.com’s weekly “Prospects Report.” (article and video)

Looking ahead

NHL.com’s Mike Morreale spoke with 2015 recruit Jordan Greenway about playing in the All-American prospects game with Eichel and about his decision to play at BU next season. A sidebar profiles younger brother James, a top defensive prospect on the NTDP U17s.

At the World U17 Challenge, 2016 recruit Clayton Keller assisted on a goal in Team USA’s 4-1 win against Canada Black in a quarterfinal game. Keller leads all tournament scorers with 10 points (6G, 4A), has a 13-game scoring streak and has at least one point in 14 of 15 U17 games. Team USA plays Sweden in the first semifinal game on Friday at 3 p.m., again with a free live-stream Webcast.

TSN’s Craig Button projects the top 16 prospects for the 2016 draft with Keller at #8 and other familiar names on the list.

Women’s Team

BU made it a sweep of the Hockey East Rookie of the Month Awards as freshman Rebecca Leslie joined Eichel in the winner’s circle.  The Ottawa native, who won a gold medal with Team Canada at 2014 IIHF World Women's U18 Championships, leads all Hockey East rookies in points (7) and assists (4).
