Game Day: Terriers host UMass--UPDATED




#11 Terriers resume Hockey East play tonight, hosting UMass and seeking to earn their second three-game win streak of the season. It’s the first meeting of the season between BU and the Minutemen.  Puck drop at Agganis Arena is at 7:05 p.m. TerrierTV (subscription) will stream the game.

UMass is led by senior Shane Walsh and sophomore Dennis Kravchenko with 18 points apiece, while junior Ray Pigozzi has 17.

Seniors are powering BU’s offense with Ahti Oksanen and assistant captain Matt Lane each scoring his tenth goal against Harvard on Thursday. Lane and team points leader Danny O’Regan (21) both found the net twice in the 6-5 come-from-behind win (video).

In the teams’ last meeting, they combined for nine third-period goals—six by BU and three by UMass—in a 9-5 Terrier win (video). Oksanen had a hat trick and captaiin Matt Grzelcyk fired home the game winner.

Following Thursday’s win over Harvard, BU is ninth in the PairWise rankings, in large part due to strength of schedule and quality wins.

Looking ahead
A pair of goals by 2016 recruit Clayton Keller led the NTDP U18s past Sioux Falls.  The left-shot center from Swansea, Illinois who has a team-best 63 points (21G, 42A), extended his scoring streak to 12 games (8G, 20A) and has points in 27 of 31 games.

2019 recruit Joel Farabee assisted on four goals in Selects Academy's 12-3 win against Springfield in USPHL 16U action.  The 5-10 playmaker from CIcero, NY has a 6-13-19 scoring line in 10 league games.

►International Scouting Services’ January Top 30 for the 2016 draft ranked one current and four future Terriers as first-round picks: Kieffer Bellows (15), Dante Fabbro (16),  Keller (17), Charlie McAvoy (20) and Chad Krys (22).

Looking back
Evan Rodrigues scored a goal and added two assists as AHL Rochester edged Hershey, 5-4. Chris Bourque had an assist for Hershey.  Rodrigues, whose 61 points last season was second best in Division 1, now has 12 points in 32 games for Sabres’ affiliate Rochester.

Women’s Team
Terriers host #1 BC in a 3 p.m. start at Walter Brown Arena. The teams met on Nov. 10 at Conte Forum, where the Eagles came away with a 4-3 overtime win. BU, which last played on Dec. 10, is led by sophomores Victoria Bach and Rebecca Leslie (photo) who each have 27 points. Earlier this week, Bach and Leslie played for Canada’s National Women’s Development Team, which won the gold medal at the Nations Cup in Fussen, Germany.  Bach scored a goal in the 4-3 overtime win over Finland in the title game.
