Game Day: Terriers host Maine UPDATED

#19 Terriers host Maine tonight in the first meeting between the teams this season. Face off at Agganis Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. BU and the Black Bears will conclude the regular season with a pair of games in Orono on March 4 & 5.

BU, which struggle and was inconsistent during the first two months of the season, has gone 9-1-1 since then, outscoring their opponents by a 43-18 margin. The Terrier offense, led by juniors Domenick Fensore and Wilmer Skoog with 19 points each and Robert Mastrosimone with 18, including nine goal, has been revitalized by the return to health of three other juniors: Jay O’Brien has 11 points (4G,7A) in his last eight games; Matt Brown has seven points (3G,4A) in his last six; and Ethan Phillips (photo) has six points (4G,2A) in his last seven.

With Drew Commesso on his way to the Beijing Olympics, it will be either Vinny Duplessis or Ashton Abel in goal. Duplessis, who earned Rookie of Month honors last February when he filled in for Covid-sidelined Commesso, has appeared in four games this season, most recently the 5-1 win against Brown where he made 11 saves. Abel played in the December exhibition game against the NTDP U18s.

The Black Bears (4-14-2, 2-10-2) didn’t register a win until mid-November, but have been more competitive recently, splitting a series with Alaska, giving Lowell two tough games, despite losing and beating BC, 4-1.

Forward Lynden Breen (13) and defenseman Jakub Sirota (12) are Maine’s top point scorers, while Donavan Villeneuve-Houle leads the team in goals with eight. Senior Grant Hebert earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors after scoring two goals and adding an assist against BC. Victor Ostman, who held the Eagles to one goal and was in net for the two previous games, has a 2.94 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
