Northeastern’s All-American goalie Devon Levi stopped 41 BU shots, including 19 in the final period, to gain his 13th shutout as #18/16 defeated the #11/9 Terriers, 2-0 at Agganis Arena before a crowd of 4,822. Cam Lund’s snap shot goal off iron at 11:06 of the third period broke the scoreless tie and was the only shot that got past Drew Commesso. An empty netter by Justin Hryckowian in the final minute produced the final margin.
While first period shots were nearly even, the Huskies had the more quality chances in the first 20 minutes. At 6:45, a puck trickled through Commesso but a diving Ethan Phillips swept it away from the goal line. At 13:10 Commesso made a huge save to keep the game scoreless. Two BU power plays went by the boards.
The middle period was more evenly played, although BU had the edge in shots. After the Terriers killed a penalty, they created several good scoring chances late in the period. Jay O’Brien fanned on a first attempt, then hammered a shot from the slot that tested Levi.
NU broke the tie, scoring on the rush when Lund got behind the BU defense and ripped a shot from the right circle that beat Commesso to the glove side. Just a minute later, Lane Hutson’s rush brought him to the goalmouth for a backhander that was defended by Levi, who also turned away Dylan Peterson’s bid.
Luke Tuch had an opportunity in the slot when the rebound of a Devin Kaplan shot fell to him, but an NU defender kept him from making a strong shot.
With Commesso pulled for an extra attack, NU knocked down a BU pass at center ice and fired into the empty net.
“It certainly wasn’t our best [effort]," said Coach Jay Pandolfo. “The first two periods we didn’t have any life, out-competed. Thought we pushed a little bit in the third. Had a few chances around the net. You’ve got to find a way to get second chances against Levi."
BU outshot the Huskies, 41-26, and had the edge in the face off battle, 32-26.
The shutout was the first time BU has gone scoreless since the same Levi did it 364 days ago in a 1-0 overtime game.

Terrier Takeaway
- Another close game with the Huskies, and another frustrating Friday for the Terriers. Just not enough effort, battle or jam during the first half of the game for BU. Lost too many puck battles, and gave up too many turn overs. And despite having the edge in power plays and shots, just did not generate enough quality chances.
- Credit to NU – despite playing without top scorer, Aiden McDonough, and senior defenseman, Jayden Strubel, NU had the better of the scoring chances early in the game, did a great job on the power play kill, blocked numerous shots, and looked like they wanted the game more early on.
- BU looked like they finally found their legs and game late in the second period and during the third period. The Terriers generated some quality scoring chances but, unfortunately, Levi was up to the task on all of them. He was a rock for the Huskies.
- One of the biggest bright spots for the Terriers was the play of Drew Commesso. He was sharp throughout the game and made huge saves early on to keep the score tied. The lone goal that Drew gave up was not his fault. The NU forward skated though at least three BU defenders (who looked gassed) and fired a great shot past Commesso. Lane Hutson and Ryan Greene also looked good for the Terriers.
- The Terriers have to find a way to regroup and give a better 60-minute effort tomorrow night at Matthews against an NU squad that will be at full strength.
During the first period, for ever Chris Henes, who passed away last Saturday was recognized with this tribute:

Women’s Team
Freshman defenseman Brooke Disher’s first goal proved the game-winner as the Terriers edged #12 UConn, 2-1 in Storrs. It was BU’s second consecutive win over a ranked team.
After the Huskies took a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period, BU responded four minutes later when Christina Vote assisted by Catherine Foulem. Then, a 7:17 of the middle period, Disher took a pass from Nadia Mattivi at the top of the left circle and rifled a shot home. Foulem had the second assist.
