Freshman defenseman Lane Hutson, who scored both the game-tying goal and the overtime winner in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Lowell, was named Hockey East’s co-Rookie of the Week. With eight points (3G,5A), he is second in scoring for BU and leads Hockey East rookies in points per game.

Lane is the second Terrier to gain conference rookie honors this season. Ryan Greene was named top rookie for the first week of the season.

Looking ahead

2023 or 2024 recruit Macklin Celebrini is playing in the World U17 Challenge beginning Thursday in Langley and Delta, Br. Columbia. He’s skating for the Canada Red squad. The U.S. will be represented by the NTDP U17s, including future Terriers Kamil Bednarik and Cole Hutson.

A 2023 arrival for the left-shot center is a distinct possibility as College Hockey News' Mike McMahon writes in his College Hockey Insider newsletter:

Speaking of accelerations, I believe it’s possible that BU recruit Macklin Celebrini (NZ:★★★★¾) could look to follow the same path and accelerate his studies, which could make him eligible to join BU next season.

Celebrini is tearing up the USHL for the Chicago Steel. In nine games, he has nine goals and five assists for 14 points. Based on what many have seen so far, there’s no reason for him to go back there next season.

One U.S. scout told me last week, “He’s the best player I’ve seen come up through the U.S. system since Auston Matthews.”

If Celebrini does accelerate, he would be a 17-year-old freshman. A few others who put on the Scarlet & White at such a young age: Jack Eichel, Chris Heron and Jay Pandolfo.

FloHockey.TV caught up with Celebrini at the USHL Showcase in September and offers this video interview/profile of the Vancouver native.

Regarding BU's newest commit, John McNelisnow added to the recruit list in the sidebarjournalist Mark Divver tweeted: “Word is McNelis is a plus skater who works hard. Projects to be good 4-year player for the Terriers."

Looking back

Happy 69th birthday to Rick Meagher, BU's only three-time All-American. 210 career points in only 124 games. A threat to score every time he touched the puck. Nearly 700 NHL games and 309 points.

This look at BU hockey's first home was posted last Friday, when the Arizona Coyotes played their first home game of the season.

Eichel scored his fifth goal on a power play and in overtime, put on a skating display to set up the game winner as Vegas edged the Capitals, 3-2.

Charlie Coyle scored his fourth goal of the season, assisted by A.J. Greer, in the Bruins' come-from-behind 6-5 overtime win against the Penguins.

Trevor Zegras scored one of the two Anaheim shootout goals and added an assist in the Ducks' 6-5 shootout win against San Jose. Kevin Shattenkirk contributed a pair of helpers for the Ducks.
