No games for the #3 Terriers this weekend, but other conference games saw the Hockey East race tighten up. Northeastern took advantage of a fluke goal and a five-minute major for slew-footing to rally from 3-0 at Providence to tie, 3-3 and eventually win in a shootout. The two points for a shootout win trimmed first-place BU’s lead over the Huskies to just one point, although the Terriers do have a game in hand.
Connecticut had an opportunity to move up from fourth place, but was swept by New Hampshire, 4-1 and 3-2 OT. Since being swept by BU in December, the Wildcats have won seven out of nine conference games and are within two points of eighth-place BC, which lost at home to Maine, 3-1.
The Terriers will face the Eagles Monday in the Beanpot Consolation game.
Looking ahead
2024 recruit Cole Hutson is on a tear at the U17 Five Nations in Switzerland with 2-5-7, including a GWG, in Team USA’s first three games. He has points in eight of the past 11 games and 40 points (8G,32A) overall, 3rd best on the NTDP U17s.
In his U17 year with the NTDP, brother Lane had 19 points in 39 games for the U17s and another eight points in 10 games with the U18s.
If he continues his current pace (1.03 ppg), Cole should surpass Chad Krys's record for most points by an NTDP U17 defenseman, 49, set in 2014-15.
Right now, there are six Terriers among the top 12 defenseman for a single season in the NTDP: Lane Hutson (63), Freddy Meyer (51), Adam Clendening and Krys (49), Bryan Miller (46) and Dom Fensore (43). Cam York is the leader with 65.
2023 recruit Macklin Celebrini’s 2023 scoring binge continued Saturday with a hat trick and two assists in Chicago’s 7-4 win against Des Moines. With two points Friday (G,A) and five Saturday, he now has a league-best 54 points and takes over the goal-scoring lead with 28. Since the first of the year, he has 12 goals and 10 assists in 13 games.
Here’s his goal in the first minute of Friday’s game:
