Senior Wilmer Skoog has signed a one-year
AHL contract with the Florida Panthers organization and will be assigned to the
Charlotte Checkers for the 2023-24 season. He's the fourth Terrier to turn pro since the end of the season, joining Drew Commesso, Matt Brown and Dom Fensore.
The center from Tyresö,
Sweden, was the Terriers co-leader, with classmate Matt Brown, in goals this
season with 16. His 31 tallies over the past two seasons also are team best.
Skoog, who joined BU from the NAHL Maryland Black Bears midway through the
2019-20 season finished his BU career with a 40-36-76 line in 103 games.

Known for the four lacrosse goals he’s scored as a Terrier, Skoog also was particularly effective at screening goalies and “dragging” defenders across the crease as a Terrier was firing a shot.
Looking ahead NHL Central Scouting announced its final rankings for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Among North American skaters, defenseman Gavin McCarthy is #57; forward Brandon Svoboda is #66; defenseman Aiden Celebrini in #140; and forward Jack Harvey is #146. On the list of international skaters, defenseman Tom Willander is #16.
.
Three future Terriers will be skating at
the IIHF World U18s in Switzerland that begin Thursday. 2024 recruit Cole
Hutson is rostered for Team USA. 2023 recruit Macklin Celebrini is on Canada’s
roster and 2023 recruit Willander will suit up for Sweden.
In a pre-tournament exhibition game
against Czechia, Hutson had three assists in a 9-2 win. Celebrini scored a goal
in Canada’s 6-5 exhibition win against Finland.
Team USA’s first preliminary round game
is set for Thursday at 10:00 a.m. ET and will air on NHL Network, as will all US games.
Canada plays Sweden Thursday but the game won’t air on NHL Network although
some of Canada’s games will be aired.
EP Rinkside’s tournament preview looks at
players who might be “X-factors” for their teams, including Willander.
Tom Willander, RD, Rögle BK J20 (J20
Nationell) Willander was Sweden's best defenceman at the recent Four Nations.
Every bit as mobile as Axel Sandin Pellikka but even more aggressive, Willander
closes rapidly on opponents in transition. He takes pucks away with his
stickwork and also engages them physically. So far, Sandin Pellikka has had the
offensive edge when both played internationally, but Willander can pull off the
same elusive moves on regroup and at the offensive blue-line as his teammate.
For him, it’s just a matter of improving his timing and reads.
