At Tuesday's Hockey East Media Day at TD Garden, Terrier Head Coach Jay Pandolfo addressed having nearly half a roster of new players (13 freshmen and transfers), the status of rehabbing captain Case McCarthy and freshman Macklin Celebrini, having three new goalies and more.
Asked whether—and how—last season's deep playoff run that delivered a Hockey East championship, a regional title and a Frozen Four berth would benefit this year's squad, he explained:
“I think it’s very beneficial. I think a lot of times, even as a player in college hockey I was fortunate to go to the Frozen Four four times, and you realized how hard it is to win. You almost have to get there and fail to learn how to win.
“So I think it’s beneficial for our group that half of our team has been there and they have a better understanding of what it takes.”
As BU forward in the mid-90s, Pandolfo reached the Frozen Four as a freshman and again as a sophomore, losing first in the semifinal and then in the final, before helping BU claim the 1995 national championship.
