O’Connell, who also fielded questions from attendees, indicated that a November/December season start remains a possibility. “We got a couple different schedule models, he said. "I know people are putting out Tweets that we’re not starting ‘til January 8; that is not true at all… to put an actual [start] date at this particular second would be a little bit unrealistic. I think we have to see what happens over the first few weeks at school.”
Commenting on the Hockey East race, he noted “If you look around the league and see what teams have and what teams lost, I think we’re in a really good spot. I like our chances, and I think we’re gonna be a top team.”
Returning players arrived on campus this past Friday and Saturday was their first day together as a team. Practices will begin on Sept. 7 at Walter Brown Arena, where both the men’s and women’s teams will practice. Agganis Arena currently is being used as a virus testing site for the BU community.
O’Connell added that he’s looking for members of last year’s
large freshman class as well several juniors who have missed time due to injury (Ty
Amonte, Jake Wise, Jack DeBoer) to take a big step up this season. He’s
encouraged by the goaltending corps—sophomore Ashton Abel and freshmen Drew
Commesso and Vincent Duplessis—which is short on D1 experience but long on
talent. The two new goalies are part of an eight-member incoming group that also includes one defenseman and five forwards, two of whom are transfers.

Former Terriers Evan Rodrigues and David Warsofsky were traded to the Maple Leafs in a multi-player deal. Rodrigues, a Toronto native, has 72 points in 199 NHL games, primarily with Buffalo. Warsofsky—one six d-men from BU’s 2009 national champions to play in the NHL—has 11 points in 55 NHL games and has played 454 AHL games.
