Tkachuk podcast interview; Looking ahead; Looking back

                             

Terrier play-by-play announcer Bernie Corbett’s Games People Play Podcast will feature an interview with former BU standout and 18-year NHL star Keith Tkachuk. The podcast will be available on Wednesday, August 19.

Tkachuk, who played for BU’s 1990-91 national finalist team, scoring 40 points and was one of just five Americans to score 500 goals and only six to total 1,000 points in the NHL. His son, Brady Tkachuk, played for BU in 2017-18 before heading to the NHL.

USA Hockey profiled 2021 recruit Roman Schmidt, a 6'5" right-shot defenseman, who begins his second season with the NTDP. A dual US-Canadian citizen, he scored 17 points in 48 games with the U17s last season, after putting up 71 points with the Don Mills Flyers U16 AAA in the GTHL.

Looking back

Matt Nieto’s first period goal began the Avalanche’s 7-1 rout of Arizona. Colorado leads the series, 3-1.

Kevin Shattenkirk’s second period slapper (video) was deflected home for the game-winner as Tampa Bay edged Columbus, 2-1, for a 3-1 series lead.

In Saturday’s game 2 of the Bruins-Hurricanes playoff series, Charlie Coyle scored a goal and added an assist in Boston’s 3-1 win (video). Charlie McAvoy also assisted on a goal.

The Worcester Telegram caught up with former Terrier Brian Collins, a four-year center who scored 50 goals and 99 points, helping BU claim Beanpot titles in ’00, ’01 and ’03. The Shrewsbury, Massachusetts native also led St. John’s High School to its first state championship.
