Covid shutdown ends BU’s WJC streak

As a result of BU’s recent decision to halt hockey activities, three players—Drew Commesso, Robert Mastrosimione and Alex Vlasic—who had been named to the US Junior National Team roster were not able to attend team camp and will not have the opportunity to play in the 2021 World Junior Championships. As a result, BU will not be represented on Team USA in that international tournament for the first time since the 2013 event.

Here are the Terriers who played in the past seven World Junior Championships

1970-71 flashback

An addendum  to last week's recap of the 4-4 tie with Harvard--the only blemish on BU's first-semester record--from Steve "Growler" Dolloff via Facebook:

Sometimes the memory is lacking and sometimes it is not ... The Terrier Hockey Fan Blog recall of the December 9, 1970 tilt against Harvard ... oh how I remember but the recall is not all that positive, but it is a fresh memory ... a good game against two strong teams in front of a full house at Harvard ... a 4-4 tie is not all that bad ... during the game, I had a clean breakaway (photo) ... Bruce Durno made the stop ... I was not happy, BUT I also had a very unhappy coach awaiting my return to the bench ... taking a trip down the runway with Coach Kelley behind our bench was not a pleasant experience ... little did I know I would make amends against Bruce Durno in the Beanpot Finals in the months ahead ... the next stop was Merrimack and a 8-0 victory ... have no recall of this game, but it was against a Division II team and the outcome would not be a concern ... jump ahead a couple of years and beyond ... it was against Merrimack during the 1973 season that I would collect my 100th point as a Terrier ... Merrimack College would also have Ron Anderson coach them for many years ... Ron was a great guy ... teammate and roommate at BU ... and member for both NCAA Championship teams.

Looking ahead

2022 recruit Anton Castro stopped 34 of 35 shots to backstop the Northeast Generals’ 5-1 win against Maine in his NAHL debut. Castro, who had begun the season with the USHL Fargo Force, played last season for the North Jersey Avalanche along with fellow recruits Lane Hutson and Devin Kaplan who are now skating for the NTDP U17s.

Looking back

Patrick Harper scored his second goal in two nights in ECHL Florida’s 4-2 win against Orlando. Harper sniped a shot to the top corner to give the Everblades a 2-0 first-period lead and earned third-star honors.
