As the Terriers 100th season approaches, Coach Albie O’Connell formally introduced the five-man freshman class featuring three forwards and two defenseman. BU also posted a full 30-man numerical roster on the goterriers.com site.
The blueliners are Braden Doyle and Ty Gallagher. The forwards are Tyler Boucher, Brian Carrabes and Tristan Amonte, brother of red-shirt senior Ty Amone and son of BU standout Tony Amonte. A sixth new face on the roster is junior transfer Matt Brown, who skated for UMass Lowell the past two seasons.
Unlike most recent seasons, the group is not made up of mostly 18 year olds. Doyle, who spent the past three season with USHL Dubuque, will be 21 this month. Amonte, after two seasons with BCHL Penticton, is already 21. Carrabes, who turned 20 this week, spent the past two campaigns in the USHL. Only Boucher and Gallagher, teammates on the NTDP U18s last year, are 18. Brown, the sixth newcomer, turns 22 on Monday.
With 24 returnees, BU has a 30-man roster, possibly for the first time. It includes three goalies, nine defenseman, 17 forwards and one F/D. While there is only one senior, Ty Amonte, the squad includes two fifth-year players, Logan Cockerill and Joe Campolieto, and graduate student Max Kaufman.

Looking ahead
NEHJ, reporting on Gavin McCarthy’s commitment to BU for 2023, noted that the ‘05 blueliner who has tendered to Muskegon, “was one of the top players at July’s USA Hockey Select 16 Player Development Camp in Buffalo. The puck jumps off his stick, he skates well, and can push pucks north while maintaining good gaps and defending well in his own zone. He made the U.S. Under-17 Select Team that will compete in the upcoming Five Nations Tournament.”
