Tuch's camp for kids; updated roster projections


After Luke Tuch’s time at the USA Hockey Junior National Team evaluation camp was cut short by an injury, the rising junior left wing turned his attention to his family’s annual hockey camp, which serves as a fund-raiser for his brother Alex’s AT9 Foundation. AT9 assists children facing a variety of challenges, including cancer. Luke, who is the camp’s head instructor, plans to head back to campus at the end of August.

"I'm very excited. I haven't been there (BU) in a couple of months. I haven't seen my teammates in a while. We've got a new coaching staff in there, so we're going to hit the ground running," said Tuch.

One name was inadvertently omitted from the chart: BU's most recent recruit, Mt. St. Charles forward Cal Hughes, an ’06 likely to arrive in 2024 or 2025. The New Jersey native is the cousin of Northeastern forwards Riley and Jack Hughes, the son of former Cornell captain Ryan Hughes and the nephew of Montreal Canadians GM Kent Hughes.

 

Looking back

Restricted free agent Kieffer Bellows signed a one-year contract extension with the Islanders, reportedly valued at $1.2 million. The 24-year-old had 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 45 games last season. He has 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 67 games, all with the Islanders who selected him 19th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

A pair of Terriers are on The Hockey News’ list of the top 10 Unrestricted Free Agents as the beginning of NHL training camps approaches. #2 is Evan Rodrigues, who is coming off a career year (43 points) in Pittsburgh. #10 is Alex Chiasson, a 10-season veteran, who has turned training camp PTOs into contracts the past few seasons including last year with Vancouver.

Journalist Mark Divver tweeted that former Terrier Jon Coleman is leaving the Bentley staff after four years as an assistant. A two-time All-American defenseman and a member of the 1995 national champions, Coleman had a long professional career in the AHL and in Europe, retiring in 2012.

 

 

The Broadway Hat, a NY Rangers podcast, features an interview (begins at 12:48) with former Terrier Dan Lacouture. In the video above, he converts a pass from Albie O'Connell in  the 1997 Hockey East Championship 4-2 win against New Hampshire.

Lacouture played one season for BU, helping the Terriers reach the 1997 national championship game following their upset win against defending champion Michigan in the semifinal. He went on to play 337 NHL games including stops with his Edmonton, Pittsburgh, the Rangers, Boston, New Jersey and Carolina.

Sophomore goalie Callie Shanahan was in goal for Team USA's win in the second game of the Collegiate Series against Canada. The US won two of three games.
