Goalie Yegorov comes aboard for second semester

During his weekly media call, Coach Jay Pandolfo revealed that 2025 recruit Mikhail Yegorov has enrolled at BU second semester. He declined to elaborate other than to say there were several reasons for the move, while adding he will discuss it further when the highly-regarded goalie officially joins the roster. Before that happens, Yegorov, reportedly an excellent student, must be cleared by the NCAA.

The 6’6” netminder from St. Petersburg, who will be 19 in March, has spent the past season and a half in the USHL with Omaha. Last June, he was drafted in the second round by the New Jersey Devils, #49 overall, after having been the top-ranked draft-eligible North American goalie by NHL Central Scouting.

From his pre-draft profile in TheHockeyWriters.com :

He appeared in 43 games, the most among rookie goalies and third among all netminders, finishing in the top 15 in save percentage (SV%) at .892, was one of 15 goaltenders to record a shutout, and played 2,117 minutes. His size helps, but he battles hard. He never gives up on a play, even with a terrible lineup in front of him. The Boston University commit is very athletic for his size and seems to stay focused no matter what is happening around him.

Yegorov faced 40 to 50 shots in most games. There is nothing flashy about his approach; he keeps his movements around the crease short and quickly sets his feet to give himself the best chance to track the puck. He seals the ice well when he drops into the butterfly and makes a lot of saves on quick-developing opportunities by simply filling space with his large frame.

Playing for the USHL’s weakest team, Yegorov has a 3.12 GAA, a .912 save percentage and a 3-12-1 record. He regularly sees upwards of 35-40 shots a game and recently stopped 66 of 69 shots in a 4-0 loss. A year ago with last-place Omaha, Yegorov was named second-team All-Rookie.

One likely reason for making the move now is the unstable situation with the Omaha franchise, which has fired head coaches twice this season, along with a shortage of skilled players.

Earlier this week, Yegorov joined the Locked On Devils podcast. He discusses his decision to play at BU at 25:19.
