Terriers have received a commitment for 2026--or possibly 2025--from Niagara Ice Dogs forward Braidy Wassilyn. A 5'11", 195 lb., LC/LW from Puslinch, Ont., who turned 17 just over a week ago, the PuckPreps 5-star set a franchise record for assists by a rookie (31) en route to a 39 point season.
On January 10, Wassilyn tied a franchise rookie record for most points (G,4A) in a game.

Per @JeffMarek , 2008-born 5⭐️ forward Braidy Wassilyn has committed to Boston University!
The Ontario native had 39 points in 62 games for the Niagara IceDogs this past season. https://t.co/PRvYOGldjf
The Daily Faceoff's Marek projects Wassilyn at a 2026 draft first-round pick, while Elite Prospects lists him as one of 19 top picks for the 2026 draft.
Wassilyn, who earned a silver medal playing for Canada Red in the World U17 Challenge, had been the Ice Dogs' top pick--#4 overall--in the 2024 OHL Entry Draft.
OHL Central Scouting report:
“Braidy is one of the most dynamic and offensively gifted players in this year’s Priority Selection. He is a threat every time he is one the ice, and will constantly challenge defenders with his speed and skill. He is a dangerous one on one player as he has the size, skill and speed that makes him hard to handle all over the ice. He competes hard every shift and he is always playing the game at a high pace. He has a cannon for a shot and will put the puck on the net from anywhere in the offensive zone, definitely a shoot first type of player. Braidy will be an elite goal scorer at the next level.”
The previous season, he captained the Markham Majors 16U AAA, ringing up a 31-31-62 scoring line in 62 games. He also earned a spot on Team Canada for the Youth Olympic Games in South Korea, along with fellow 2026 recruit 5-star Tynan Lawrence.
If Wassilyn arrives on Comm. Ave. for the 2026 season, he'll join Lawrence, Caleb Malhotra, Swedish power forward Viktor Norringer, Yegor Shilov, Rian Chudzinski and Jay Feldberg in an impressive group. However...

There's interest in him maybe accelerating for next year. He and his team are figuring out the schooling side of it and undecided on whether he'll join the Terriers…
Whenever Wassilyn arrives, it won't be his first time skating at Agganis.

Wheeler includes Wassilyn, Lawrence and Shilov along with NTDP defenseman Luke Schairer, among his early top picks for the 2026 draft.

Another 2026 recruit--although a 2025 draft eligible--Haoxi Simon Wang was named a second-team OHL all-rookie. Wang, a 6'5", 234 lb., defenseman, joined Oshawa at mid-season.
tw-align-centerPer @JeffMarek, the Brantford Bulldogs have signed 5 ⭐️ '08 Boston University commit Caleb Malhotra!

Malhotra spent 2024-25 with the Chilliwack Chiefs, where he tallied 26 points in 44 games. Caleb was our 4th ranked skater for the 2024 OHL Draft. https://t.co/jCacxf1yMT
►The name Malte Vass, a Färjestad BK J20 left-shot defenseman, has been connected to BU as a potential recruit on various online posts for several month. At the NHL combine in Buffalo, he spoke with NHL.com's Mike Morreale, telling him that he plans to attend Boston University in 2025-26.
"I think it's a really good school, and I think it's the best way for me," Vass said. "I think it's better to play college to get to the NHL."
tw-align-centerThrough reporting from @MikeMorrealeNHL, it looks like the Terriers have landed a commitment from Swedish defenseman Malte Vass, who is 2025 draft eligible.

Vass, a 6-foot-2 blueliner who played for Färjestad BK J20 this past season, will join BU for the upcoming season. https://t.co/ZHE3IfUoHn pic.twitter.com/QqT3ojK3Ux
Vass, who was measured at 6'2.5", 195 lb. at the Combine, is a very physical shutdown defenseman. NHL Central Scouting ranked him #17 among European skaters, while TSN has ranked him #46 (Bob McKenzie) and #64 (Craig Button) overall. From the Elite Prospects draft guide:
Malte Vass is a defensive defenceman who kills plays through his physicality and motor. He suffocates opponents by taking away their time and space. He is an aggressive play-killer who can leverage his strength and skating to stop rushes early or engage attackers along the wall to separate them from the puck.
Of the 27 defensemen at the Combine, three--Wang, and 2025 recruits Carter Amico and Charlie Trethewey--are confirmed BU commits. Vass would make it four.
We'll post more about Vass should his commitment become official.
Looking back
The Professional Hockey Writers Association have voted Montreal's Lane Hutston as the 2024-25 winner of the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's top rookie. He joins Chris Drury ( 44 points for Colorado in 1998-99) as Terriers who have earned the award.
With 66 points in 82 games, the two-time BU All-American became the fourth defenseman in the NHL’s modern era (since 1943-44) to lead rookies in scoring, joining Bobby Orr, Brian Leetch and Quinn Hughes. His 60 assists tied Larry Murphy's mark for the most by a rookie defenseman in League history.
As the first choice on 165 of the 191 ballots and a unanimous top-two pick, Hutson was a dominant winner with 1,832 voting points. Calgary Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf finished second in voting with 1,169 points, a total that included 15 first-place votes. Wolf was followed closely by San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini, who earned 11 first-place votes and 1,104 points.
