With a hat trick on Saturday and four total goals in the series with North Dakota, Lane Hutson has been named Hockey East Player of the Week. It’s the second time he’s earned that honor this season. First time was the campaign’s first week when his overtime goal sent BU past Bentley in the team’s opener.

Here's the first one from Saturday's game:

Saturday #2, Saturday #3, Friday's goal

Hutson leads all D1 defensemen in goals with six and his nine points are second best among Hockey East blueliners.

NEW-- Bernie Perisie captures all three hat trick goals from ice level

Macklin Celebrini and Devin Kaplan were named to Hockey East's Weekly Top Performers List:

Celebrini recorded three assists over the weekend against No. 3 North Dakota, including two helpers on Saturday. He also led BU with 12 shots on goal across the two games.

Kaplan tallied one goal and two assists over the weekend, including a third-period equalizer on Saturday to force overtime against No. 3 North Dakota. He had the primary helper on Luke Tuch’s game-winning goal on Friday.

Poll Story

Terriers remain at #9 in the USCHO D1 Men’s Poll following their splitting the series with North Dakota. The Fighting Sioux dropped from #3 to #4. As BU Hockey public address announcer Nick Bove Tweeted:  That shows how easy it is to drop and how hard it is to rise in college hockey. Would've thought we'd pick up a spot at the very least.

Among BU’s future opponents: BC remains atop the poll, Providence jumped from #7 to #5, and Cornell went from #10 to #7.

In the USA Hockey/The Rink Live poll, BU stays at #8, just ahead of Michigan and just behind Providence and Cornell.

In both national polls, Hockey East claims six of the top 20 spots, with Maine, UMass and New Hampshire, joining BU, BC and Providence.

John Buccigross’s ranking has BU in the #8 spot, just ahead of Cornell. Everything College Hockey’s ranking slots the Terriers at #7.

SNL (Saturday Night Leftovers, and Friday's too)

A day after Charlie McAvoy read the lineup to the Terriers, Bruins national anthem soloist Todd Angilly treated Terrier fans to his unique rendition.

Friday's jacket went to defensive stalwart Sam Stevens.

Saturday wasn't the first time the Men's and Women's teams have produced hat tricks on the same day. @BU Hockey Stats reports that "on Feb 27th, 2015 Evan Rodrigues had a hat trick vs NU and Kayla Tutino had one vs Vermont."

Twenty years ago this month, on Nov. 30, there were two hat tricks in the same game by Terrier defensemen. Freshman Kevin Schaeffer and junior Ryan Whitney each connected three times as BU blitzed Yale, 7-2

The last hat trick by a BU blueliner before Hutson's? David Farrance vs. Providence on Nov. 19, 2019.

Looking ahead

2024 recruit Owen Keefe is off to a fast start with his new team, Sioux City, after last week’s trade from Muskegon. On Friday, he assisted on the game’s first goal in a 5-4 OT loss to Cedar Rapids. Then, Saturday against Dubuque, he scored a goal, added an assist and had six shots in a 9-4 win.

2025 recruit Jack Murtagh, along with fellow recruits, Charlie Trethewey and Conrad Fondrk, has been one of the NTDP U17 top performers. Today, PuckPreps upgraded his ranking.

New 5 Star!

The only new addition to the 5-star ranks is U17 NTDP centreman Jack Murtagh who jumps from #42 to #32 on our rankings after a strong start to the year. Murtagh thrives below the hash marks in the tough areas on the ice as his powerful stride allows him to muscle through contact along the wall. He shows great touch with the puck as he feeds teammates in the slot from behind the goal-line and his ability to make quick decisions and one touch passes makes him a great small area asset. He is especially adept at finding seams off the rush on zone entries and he follows up his natural playmaking ability by driving the net hard off-puck for give-and-go’s. The U17 team has not gotten off to a roaring start this year but Murtagh has certainly been a positive piece.

PuckPreps new ranking of US born 2007s has Conrad Fondrk #5, Murtagh #11, Charlie Trethewey #13.

2025 recruit Zach Morin, a USHL rookie--and a teammate of Trethewey last season with Little Caesar's 15U--was mic'd up at a Youngstown practice before he joined Canada Red at the 2023 World U17 Challenge in Prince Edward Island.

2024 recruit Max Lacroix stopped 28 shots but the Colorado Grit was edged by New Mexico, 2-1.

Looking back

Joel Farabee scored his fifth goal for Philadelphia, but David Quinn's Sharks defeated the Flyers, 2-1, ending San Jose's 11-game winless streak.
