Game Day: Terriers visit UMass UPDATED

Terriers head West to Amherst for their third and final regular-season meeting with #9 UMass. Puck drop at the Mullins Center is set for 7:00 p.m. The game will air on NESN with a College Sports Live stream available for those outside of New England.

In a November weekend series, the teams played to a 2-2 overtime tie at Agganis with the Minutemen getting the extra point with a shootout win. The next night in Amherst, the contest went to overtime again before Case McCarthy’s goal gave BU a 4-3 win.

UMass, currently in second place in Hockey East, is coming off a weekend sweep of Northeastern (3-2, 6-0). Senior Bobby Trivigno, a first-team All-American and Walter Brown Award winner last season, paces the offense with a 10-12-22 scoring line, followed by freshman defenseman Scott Morrow (8-12-20), freshman defenseman Ryan Ufko (2-11-13) and junior Reed Lebster (5-7-12). Senior goalie Matt Murray has made all 20 starts for the Minutemen and carries a 2.17 GAA and a .929 save percentage with three shutouts.

For BU Domenick Fensore (18), Robert Mastrosimone (17) and Wilmer Skoog (16) are the top point-getters. Mastrosimone, who scored in both Vermont games, has points in five of his last six games, while Matt Brown has a five-game point streak. Drew Commesso, who may be making his final start before departing for pre-Olympic camp in Los Angeles, is 6-1-1 with a .954 save percentage and a 1.34 goals-against average in his last nine games.

► Commesso, Ethan Phillips, Brian Carrabes and Ty Gallagher were named to Hockey East's weekly list of top performers.

Looking ahead

2022 recruit Jeremy Wilmer scored a power play goal and added an assist in league-leading Tri-City’s 7-4 win against Des Moines. With a 14-32-46 scoring line, the left-shot forward is the Storm’s top point producer and currently third in the USHL. Wilmer, who was the league’s offensive player of the week for Jan. 18, has points in 14 of his last 16 games with six goals and 20 assists over that span.

Looking back

NHL.com looks at the top candidates for the Calder Trophy for top rookie, including Trevor Zegras, whom a poll from the PHWA has made the favorite at the season’s midpoint. Zegras, who has a 10-19-29 scoring line, announced on Twitter that he’s been chosen for the Breakaway Challenge during NHL All-Star Weekend. Arizona's Clayton Keller is the only Terrier selected for the All-Star game.
