Terriers began their two-game series with independent Arizona State by dominating the Sun Devils, 7-1, at Agganis Arena. Robert Mastrosimone, Jay O’Brien and Matt Brown each had a goal and an assist while Dom Fensore contributed a pair of helpers.
For BU, which is 4-0-1 in its last five games, the seven goals were the second biggest output of the season and the six-goal margin was the largest. Terriers connected on both of its power-play opportunities.
The teams meet again Saturday evening with puck drop at 7 p.m. Check back for the lineup and links.
BU came out fast and physical in the opening period and had the edge in shots, 14-9, and grade A chances, but neither team could find the net.

Just two minutes into the second period, Tristan Amonte scored his first collegiate goal. Brother Ty Amonte freed a puck in the right corner and sent it to Ethan Phillips at the top of the right circle. He slid the puck to Tristan skating in from behind the goal line and he roofed a backhander into the top corner.

Midway through the period and on the power play, Wilmer Skoog’s shot was blocked by ASU’s 6’6” goalie Cole Brady. Mastrosimone collected the loose puck, skated behind the net and sent a pass to Ty Gallagher in the right circle for a hard wrister that beat Brady high again.

Late in the period, Mastrosimone stripped a Sun Devil defender just inside the offensive blueline. He skated through the left circle, cut across the goalmouth and backhanded the puck home for an unassisted tally and a 3-0 lead.
The visitors put a pin in Drew Commesso’s shutout bid at 9:18 of the third, scoring on an odd-man rush after a BU rush the other way was defended. Matthew Kopperud’s shot from the left circle was redirected by grad transfer from Wisconsin Sean Dhooghe high to Commesso’s stick side.

BU got that one back just two minutes later when O’Brien pilfered a pass at the BU blueline and had a clean breakaway. His backhander beat Brady to make it 4-1.
With four minutes remaining ASU pulled its goalie for an extra attack, but Dylan Peterson fired the puck from the BU defensive zone into the empty net for his team-leading seventh goal.
Terriers weren’t done scoring. On the team's second power play, Brown whipped home a loose puck from the slot after O’Brien’s initial shot and Luke Tuch’s attempt to jam home the rebound. Jamie Armstrong’s first goal of the season, assisted by Fensore, closed out the scoring.
BU held an overall edge in shots, 38-27, and in face off wins, 29-22. With a pair of penalty kills, BU extended its streak of kills to 18, dating back to the Nov. 27 game against Cornell.
Commesso, who was named Hockey East Goalie of the Month for December has a 1.45 GAA and a .949 save percentage covering his last four starts.
The one negative in the game for BU was losing Alex Vlasic to a game misconduct for hitting from behind, forcing the Terriers to go with just five Ds for the final 37 minutes.
Clearly encouraged by his team's performance, Coach Albie O'Connell said, "It was as thorough as we’ve played all year. We were good off the rush. I think a lot of it had to do with our D and our breakouts. Our commitment to defense was about as good as it’s been all year.
"When we were on offense, we were going to the net. We were taking pucks to the net. All four lines did it.
"Cade Webber [had] probably the best game of his career. I thought Mastro had his best game of the season."
