3-Year, $12M extension for Oettinger

 

 Jake Oettinger, a restricted free agent, has come to terms with the Dallas Stars, agreeing to a three-year contract worth $12 million.

The Hockey News reported that “the deal, which now ties Oettinger to Dallas through the 2024-25 season, will pay the 23-year-old $1.4 million in actual salary along with a $1 million signing bonus for this coming season before increasing to $4.8 million in salary for years two and three.”

The former Terrier netminder took over as the Stars top netminder last season, fashioning a 30-15-1 record with a 2.53 GAA and a .914 save percentage. He was a standout in Dallas’s seven-game playoff series against Calgary, posting a 1.81 GAA and making 64 saves in a game seven 3-2 overtime loss.

Meanwhile, free agents Evan Rodrigues and Alex Chiasson are looking for landing spots for the upcoming season. ProhockeyRumors.com reports:

While [Rodrigues'] name has been connected to several clubs over the last few weeks, including the Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks, there are a number of teams in the mix. According to his agent Darren Ferris, who spoke with ESPN, “a good seven or eight” teams are having discussions with  Rodrigues’ camp. Ferris went on to explain that while there appear to be a few good fits for his client, teams are dealing with difficult cap restraints and trying to move money out.

Three weeks ahead of pro camps, Chiasson has been skating with some of his  Canucks teammates.

“My hope was to get something done here. Not sure where that’s gonna go, but they’re giving me the opportunity to skate here, so we’ll see how that folds out,” Chiasson said to reporters on Tuesday.

“I’ve always wanted to play here, I heard summers were great. We’ve moved around quite a bit in the last couple of years, so we just decided to stay in probably one of the nicest cities I’ve played or lived in my career.”

 Looking ahead

2023 recruit Aiden Celebrini is on the pre-season roster of the AJHL Brooks Bandits. The older brother of 2023 or 2024 recruit Macklin Celebrini, Aiden had been selected by Lincoln in the last May’s USHL Entry Draft. Both brothers played for Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep last season. Aiden, a right-shot defenseman, had a 2-30-32 line in 55 games. Macklin, who led the team with 117 points, was tendered by USHL Chicago and will play with the Steel this season.

Looking back

Former Terrier Jake Witkowski has been signed by the ECHL Jacksonville Icemen. After four seasons at BU, he played for Canisius as a grad student last season, scoring 11 points in 32 games.
