Hohmann OT goal earns BU a 3-2 win



Terriers rallied from a 2-1 deficit going into the final period to defeat Rensselaer in overtime on sophomore Cason Hohmann’s fifth goal of the season. Junior Sahir Gill who assisted on the game-winner, had knotted the game a two apiece early in the third period when he rapped home a junior Garrett Noonan rebound.

The visitors drew first blood halfway through the first when Ryan Haggerty scored of a clean faceoff win. Five minutes later senior Ryan Santana brought BU even converting a rebound after strong work along the boards and a drive to the net by freshman Mike Moran.

Freshman Dan O’Regan’s shot clanged iron early in the second, but the Engineers scored the period’s only goal on CJ Lee’s shot from the slot. After Gill’s goal sent the game into overtime, Rensselaer had a flurry of scoring chances that were turned away by freshman Sean Maguire who was strong in goal stopping 27 shots. His shutout streak ended at 141 minute, but he improved his record to 4-2 and his GAA to 1.98.

Hohmann, who also won 10 of 14 faceoffs, earned #1 star honors. He leads BU in scoring with  18 points. 
BU took 41 shots on RPI’s Bruce Merrimam.
Terriers took only penalty all evening, a tripping call against Sam Kurker.
BU improves its record to 11-6-0.
