Freshman
netminder Sean Maguire’s fifth consecutive win and 37 save effort against
Merrimack earned him a share of the Hockey East Rookie
of the Week Award. The Powell River, B.C., native also won rookie honors in
November following his shutout of St. Lawrence. Terriers making the top
performers list were Cason Hohmann, who leads the nation in plus-minus at +20,
Captain Wade Megan, Matt Nieto and Danny O’Regan.
After
splitting its two games last week, BU dropped a notch to #9 in both the USCHO
and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.
Looking ahead
2013 recruit Kevin Duane scored a goal and an assist in the
Jr. Bruins’ 5-3 win against
South Shore Kings. In ten games since
joining the Jr. Bruins, Duane has a 6-9-15 scoring line.

A trio of ex-Terriers, Providence Bruins Chris Bourque and
David Warsofsky and ex-Devil Jay Pandolfo have joined Boston
Bruins workouts. Bourque, MVP of the 2005 Beanpot, was the P-Bruins top
scorer with an 8-20-28 line. The Boston Globe reported that he played left wing
on the third
line at the B’s first practice. With the call-ups to Boston, Providence
recalled former Terrier Justin Courtnall, who had been at ECHL Greenville.
A pair of standout forwards from the Terriers 2009 national
champions are back in Nashville for Predators’ training camp. Colin Wilson, a
2008 first-round draft choice who signed a new
three-year $6 million contract, had been practicing in Minnesota and
Winnipeg. Brandon Yip, re-signed this summer to a one-year, $750,000 deal, had
done his skating at Agganis Arena and was frequently seen at BU games.
Colorado Avs head coach Joe Sacco
discussed his training camp plans with the Denver media. Sacco, whose son Joe is a sophomore wing at
The Rivers School, playing for BU All-American Shawn McEachern, is in his
fourth season as Colorado’s head coach. Former
Terrier associate head coach David Quinn begins his first season as an Avs
assistant following three years as head coach at AHL Lake Erie.Among the 26
players in the Avs camp is David Van derGulik
11-12-23 in 35 games, played 25 for Avs last season.
Former BU assistant captain Brian Strait is at Pittsburgh’s training
camp after skating with Wilkes Barre Scranton during the lockout. The
assistant captain on BU’s 2009 title team made nine starts for the Penguins
last year in an injury-shortened season.
In Anaheim,
Nick Bonino was skating on the Ducks’ second line with Teemu Selanne and Bobby
Ryan. During the lockout he put up a 26-26-52 line in 19 games for HC
Neumarkt-Egna in the Italian League.
In the ECHL, former BU power forward Zach Cohen was traded
from Bakersfield to the Greenville (SC) Road Warriors. Playing in his first ECHL
season Cohen has a 5-6-11 scoring line in 31 games.
Max Nicastro has been recalled
to AHL Grand Rapids after a nine-game stint with the ECHL Toledo Walleye.
Women’s Team
A pair of goals by senior Jennelle Kohanchuk led the
Terriers to a 5-2 road win against Maine in the first game of two-game series.. BU also received goals from leading
scorer Marie-Philip Poulin (30 points), Isabel Menard and Louis Warren. Kerrin
Sperry made 21 saves to gain her 11th win. In Sunday's rematch, Terriers concluded the sweep with a 4-2 win over the Black Bears. Poulin, Warren, Kayla Tutino and Shannon Doyle were the BU goal-scorers, as goalie Allisa Fromkin earned her third win of the season..
