#6/6 Terriers will look to rebound from their “lost weekend,” going on the road for a pair of games against Notre Dame at the Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind. Tonight’s game begins at 7 p.m. ET, while Saturday’s matchup starts at 6:00 p.m. ET. Both contests will live stream on Peacock (link below).
While the Fighting Irish lead the all-time series (6-8-2), BU has won the past two meetings, including a 5-2 decision last November. The series began on Dec. 29, 1970 with a 7-3 BU win in the Boston Arena Christmas Tournament. The next meeting, also a 7-3 BU win, came exactly 25 years later--Dec. 29, 1995--when the Frozen Four bound Terriers were led by Captain Jay Pandolfo. BU last visited Notre Dame in 2016 when they were members of Hockey East.
Notre Dame opened the season splitting a pair with Clarkson at home before losing on the road at RIT, 3-0. Fifth-year goalie Ryan Bischel was the top Big 10 goalie last season and earned second-team All-American honors as well. He has a 1.68 GAA thus far. Grad student Trevor Janicke and junior Drew Bavaro are the top returning scorers. Senior Landon Slaggert has two of the team's four goals. Danny Nelson is a top freshman from the NTDP U18s.
“I think we have to show that we know how to play defense,” Pandolfo said.
"Defensively, we really struggled," he added. "We left the middle of our ice and the slot open all weekend."
More about that in The Boston Hockey Blog game preview.
The coach offered some praise for the freshman defensive pairing of Tom Willander, who had a goal and an assist against Bentley, and Aiden Celebrini, who contributed two helpers.
He noted that Celebrini "was competing and he was keeping it simple. He brought pucks out very good and he closed quick in the defensive zone. He transitioned quickly."
Junior transfer Jack Hughes will make his BU debut. In practice, he skated at left wing with Ryan Greene and Quinn Hutson. Cade Webber will be a game-time decision Friday. He didn't skate Tuesday or Wednesday.

With Hughes (#27) set to take the ice as Terrier for the first time, BHB’s Brian Foisy talked with the Westwood, Mass., native about his decision to transfer from Northeastern to a team he “hated” for two seasons. The 2022 Los Angeles Kings draft pick, who earned Hockey East All-Rookie honors as a freshman, was a NTDP U18 teammate of Jeremy Wilmer and Ty Gallagher (and briefly with Lane Hutson and Devin Kaplan).
