The top-ranked Terriers launch their 102nd season tonight on the road against Bentley in Waltham. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m. for the contest that will live stream on FloHockey.tv (subscription). The game can be heard on BU All-Access with Bernie Corbett doing play-by-play and Mark Linehan providing analysis.
BU also opened against the Falcons last season, coming away with an 8-2 win at Agganis Arena.
BU enters the season as the consensus No. 1 team in the country, topping both the USCHO.com and the USA Hockey/The Rink Live national preseason polls. This is the first time since the 1995- 96 season that BU has been voted as the preseason No. 1.
Despite losing four of its top six scorers to graduation, Head Coach Jay Pandolfo’s squad, which is the fourth youngest in D1, returns a great deal of offense; in fact, the most returning points—272—of any D1 school and the fourth most goals, 95.

The Terrier attack is paced by five sophomores: Lane Hutson, who led Hockey East with 48 points last season, Ryan Greene and Jeremy Wilmer with 31 points each, Quinn Hutson with 28 and Devin Kaplan with 23. Senior Luke Tuch added 20 while classmates Sam Stevens and Dylan Peterson each had 18.
Joining the offense is center Macklin Celebrini, who many project to become the top pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft and who is coming off a record-setting season in the USHL. Shane Lachance, Doug Grimes and Jack Harvey are other first-year forwards expected to see early action.
The defense boasts four returnees led by Hutson and fifth-year, captain Case McCarthy. Junior Ty Gallagher had 18 points last year while grad student Cade Webber was second in the nation in blocked shots with 95. Freshman Gavin McCarthy, Case’s brother, will be in the defense rotation. With freshman Tom Willander, Vancouver’s top draft pick, forced to sit out tonight due to an NCAA suspension, classmates Mick Frechette and Aidan Celebrini may be in the line-up.
For the first time since 1963-64, BU has an entirely new goalie room featuring three transfers. Junior Mathieu Caron takes over the starting role following two strong years at Brown. Last season he had a 2,49 GAA and a .921 save percentage, earning third-team All-ECAC and second-team All-Ivy honors. He’ll be backed by senior Henry Graham (UMass) and grad student Nick Howard (St. Anselm).
Under new head coach Andy Jones, Bentley returns 18 players. Senior defenseman Nick Bochen is the top returning scorer with 20 points, while Stephen Castagna had seven goals and eight assists. In goal, senior Nicholas Grabko and sophomore Connor Hasley split time last year.

Terriers dropped a 4-1 decision to #5/7 Northeastern on opening night at Walter Brown Arena. But the first game under new head coach Tara Watchorn was much closer than the score would indicate. It stood at 2-1 Huskies when BU pulled freshman goalie Mari Pieterson with 1:14 remaining. NU connected for an empty-net tally and then added a power-play goal in the final seconds.
In the first period, co-Captain Catherine Foulem matched a Northeastern goal to knot the score at one apiece.
