Team Scarlet doubled up Team White, 6-3, in a two-period scrimmage today. With no “real hitting allowed,” play clearly favored the offense.
After Cole Hutson opened the scoring for Scarlet on a wrister set up by a “beautiful Ryder Ritchie drop pass,” White took the lead on goals by Sascha Boumedienne and Ben Merrill, who broke up a play and scored unassisted.
Jack Harvey tied the score at two apiece. Then Scarlet took a 3-2 lead on a “cannon of a shot” by Conrad Fondrk, wearing a blue non-contact jersey. He’s still recovering from a broken leg suffered last Spring.

A pair of Cole Eiserman goals (one on a breakaway), assisted by Hutson (of course), stretched Scarlet’s edge to 5-2. Kamil Bednarik’s goal cut the margin to two goals before Ritchie set up Sacha Boisvert for an empty net tally. Mikhail Yegorov was in goal for Scarlet and Max Lacroix for White.
After five minutes of four-on-four and five more of three-on-three (in which Jonathan Morello broke up Boisvert’s breakaway), the scrimmage concluded with a penalty shot competition. Boumedienne, Boisvert and Jack Murtagh were the scorers.

-Both goalies were solid.
-Boumedienne’s shot is noticeably harder.
-Boisvert is impressive and big.
-Carter Amico blocked numerous shots.
-A defense pairing of Charlie Trethewey and Malte Vass looked solid.

The Terriers had a 3-1 lead midway through the second period on goals by Welcke, Bertelsen and Lola Reid, but the Stingers scored twice to knot the score at 3-3 after two. After Clara Yuhn’s redirection at 9:18 of the third restored BU’s lead, Concordia scored a late power-play goal to send the game to overtime.
BU used all three goalies: Mari Petersen, grad student Michelle Pasiechnyk and freshman Jack Wright, who stopped both Concordia shootout attempts.

Looking back
Despite strong showings in a pair of exhibition games, Vancouver rookie Tom Willander says he's okay with beginning the season in the AHL.
"At the end of the day, I don't think you can do more than your best so I always try to do that. Whether you play up (NHL) or down (AHL), I think those are two scenarios that are good for you. Playing pro hockey is going to be an experience; it's going to be fun and cool. But maybe starting on the middle step (AHL), people look down on it. But I think many times I feel that people forget that it's a good middle step to keep your game and help you get to that next level. I'll keep doing my best and see what happens." Willander said to Paterson earlier this week.

Beginning his third pro season, Domenick Fensore has impressed at Carolina's rookie camp and main camp. TheHockeyWriters.com reported:
Fensore got some time on the power play and showed that he’s taken what he learned with the Wolves last season as well. He’s someone who’s taken a step offensively after tallying nine goals and 32 points in 2024-25. If he can carry that momentum into the 2025-26 season, there could be a possibility that he plays for the Hurricanes at some point.
Edmonton has assigned Matt Copponi to its AHL Bakersfield training camp.
After splitting last season between Nashville and AHL Milwaukee, Kiefer Bellows is getting a new start with Brynas IF in the Swedish pro league.
