Terriers to face St. Cloud in Northeast Regional

#11 ranked Terriers will take on #8 St. Cloud in the NCAA Northeast Regional in Albany on Saturday. Game time is 6:30 p.m. for the contest that will air on ESPN News.  For the regional, BU is the #3 seed while the Huskies are #2. The other half of the regional has #1 seed BC against #4 Notre Dame in a 1 p.m. start.

Hockey East tournament champion UMass is the #2 seed in the East Regional in Bridgeport, where Wisconsin is the #1 seed.

BU has faced St. Cloud only once previously. That was in the first round of the 2000 regional, also in Albany, with BU winning, 5-3 behind a pair of goals by Jack Baker and a goal and two assists from Captain Carl Corazzini  At the time the regionals had three teams with the top seed getting a first round bye--in this case, ECAC champion St. Lawrence.

The regional final needed four overtime periods to decide a winner with the Skating Saints scoring the game-winner four minutes into the fourth extra period for a 3-2 victory. The 123 minutes, 53 seconds of game time shattered the record for longest NCAA tournament contest of 100:28 set by Maine and Michigan in the 1995 semifinals. Terrier goalie Rick DiPietro established a new record for saves in an NCAA tournament game with 77, breaking Chris Terreri's record of 62, set in 1985.
